The Power of Pentecost

In worship this week we have been celebrating Pentecost Sunday - the birthday of the Church! It is the moment we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of God himself - to empower the disciples to continue Christ's mission and ministry on earth.

Pentecost offers a great reminder to us all that God's Spirit is poured out on all believers: we are all made in the image and likeness of God. We all have a heart, mind and soul capable of feeling and working with the Holy Spirit (if we choose to let that yearning energy inside of us direct our thoughts, actions and words). God calls each one of us to work alongside him in building his kingdom on earth by choosing to engage with his Holy Spirit.

Interpreting Year 5

The children appraised and evaluated current sculptures and investigated what materials could have been used. Next they were given some abstract sculptures and explored interpreting what they might represent: what message could the artist be trying to convey? There were wonderful answers and meanings for the abstract sculptures, from broken headphones because we spend so much time on devises, to the Holy Spirit pouring out from a person's soul!

After trying out some clay technique, the children were given the brief to make a sculpture to represent an abstract noun or concept which resulted in amazing success. Here are some pictures of the children's work so far - can you tell what they are trying to convey?

Life-changing Spirits

In Witness Worship this week, Miss Portelli introduces us to two completely different witnesses, whose lives have taken completely different directions...and yet both of them were influenced by God's Holy Spirit.

It serves as a powerful reminder that our vocations can take many forms and our contribution to building God's kingdom will be unique.

Children were invited to reflect on this week's big questions during Spiritual Journaling, focusing on the image of a dove - an iconic symbol of the Holy Spirit.

Reception Superheroes!

What an amazing party we all had today! The children loved dancing, singing and eating some party food! This week the children have worked so hard planning the party, writing the shopping list and making the decorations; even the Evil Pea was invited! Well done Reception.

4A filled with the Spirit

In a beautifully arranged Class Worship, St Angela's Class take the lead in teaching us how the Holy Spirit transformed the lives and work of the disciples and continues to change our world today.

In some powerful, personal testimonies, children share their experience of the Holy Spirit working in their lives; in school, at home and even on the climbing wall!

The make a very powerful and personal link to the gifts of the spirit and how these can change our lives for the better.
