Looking ahead to the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B), Jesus gathers his disciples and sends them out in pairs. He tasks them to spread the Good News, perform miracles in his name and build God's kingdom on earth. Awesome stuff!
For our part, we have been focusing on the importance of being a good partner: being someone who is reliable, trustworthy and selfless. To work effectively in pairs, children need to think about the other before themselves. That's a journey that can take a lifetime.
Indeed, we know that many children will cling to their BFF (it's frightening how quickly the talk of "best friends" develops even in Reception) and refuse to engage with others. We are called to break down these barriers and teach children that they can (and must) work harmoniously and collaboratively with all other people, whether they are BFFs or not. When we make sacrifices to work well in pairs, we reveal the loving nature of God to the whole community.
Such a joy to see the youngest children in the school modelling for the whole community what it means to be an ambassador for St Joseph's. The Reception cohort did us proud on their day out at Bocketts Farm! They had great fun visiting and feeding the animals (and enjoying the play park). Sincerest thanks to our army of parent helpers who made the day a resounding success. We understand that all involved slept well the following night.
In Witness Worship this week, Miss Hilborn takes the lead. She introduces us to the importance of working well in pairs; showing us exactly how this can be achieved from the very beginning of our school journey.
Miss Hilborn shares with us the beautiful example of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who engage in many royal duties together as a pair. In partnership, they champion good causes, lead by example and help to build God's kingdom on earth.
Our dedicated and professional Year 6 Drama Club, under the expert direction of Mrs Thomas, have produced this short play, "Are you new here?" - It's great fun and a testament to our superbly talented children. What a great way to celebrate their gifts!
In a beautiful Class Worship this week, St Bernadette's Class teach us about the importance of knowing, loving and looking after our friends.
Jesus modelled for us how to forgive our friends when they hurt us and how to build relationships that help to reveal God's love to the world.
St Bernadette's Class reveal to us that we can see everyone as a friend and neighbour, especially when we take the time to appreciate that they are a unique gift from God.
Thank you for a beautiful and moving tribute to the power of friendship 1B!
Why not end the week with Miss Hilborn and her skeleton friends?
