B - Ascension

Ascension of the Lord

We look forward in worship this week to the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord - celebrated on Thursday 13th May. After Jesus ascends to Heaven, we learn that the disciples continue his mission: preaching the Good News and performing miracles. We hear that "Jesus was working with them."

We know that the success of our school depends on the success of our community "team". We understand from this week's Gospel that we are not meant to work alone; when we work alongside others, we work alongside Christ. Having the courage and conviction to build a healthy, harmonious and hardworking team spirit is essential if we are to build God's kingdom on earth.

Teamwork makes the dream work

In Witness Worship this week, Miss Egan explores the life and successes of Olympic Champion Dame Jessica Ennis Hill. Jessica explains how she couldn't have achieved anything in her career without the support and motivation of the team working around her.

Miss Egan challenges us all this week to think about how well we work with others and where Christ lives within our teamworking experiences. Whether it's in the playground, the staffroom or at home - we live and work in groups and Christ works through us when we work together.

Clubs in Action

Year 1 Art Club have had a great time making masks over the last few weeks which included paper mache, painting and decorating. What amazing artists they are!

In the net, with Year 6

Children were revising their understanding of nets and set themselves a challenge: to build the tallest tower out of 3D shapes they had constructed themselves! So children revised their understanding and practised accurate measuring of lengths of the faces. They could use a maximum of four cuboids or cubes, as well as other 3D shapes and had to have an apex on the top but this could be done through a pyramid or cone!

Year 4 Genius!

On Wednesday 12th of May, Year 4 had an amazing visit from Genie Lab. The children watched an array of experiments all based on states of matter. The children's favourite experiments were the ones that involved dry ice and the plasma gun! After all that excitement the children were allowed to take away their own experiment to do in the classroom. Their challenge was to identify what happened when you combined a powder with water. The results gave us fake snow!

Year 3 are blossoming!

On Wednesday, Year 3 dodged the showers to enjoy a fascinating day at Wisley Gardens. The children took part in an interesting workshop led by RHS Wisley staff and explored different ways that plants grow - from seeds, bulbs and cuttings. Using their senses, the children learnt more about fruits, vegetables and apples. Did you know Wisley grows 750 different varieties of apple trees. During the day the children completed a challenge to fill a match box with a variety of natural objects. Some children managed to collect over 22 objects in their box! A great day of outdoor learning in Year 3!

Teamwork- St Oswald's Class Assembly

Teamwork in 1O

A fabulous worship this week prepared by St Oswald's Class, with some very familiar faces! Using an array of amazing examples, 1O help us to understand that teamwork is an integral part of life (and I don't just mean human life!) They explore the many different ways we can experience the power of working with people: from the stories of Jesus and his disciples thousands of years ago, to the hustle and bustle of the playground today.

What a joy to see St Oswald's show us how it's done. You're a great team 1O!

The saga continues...

The Evil Pea has been causing all sorts of havoc around Reception this week. He turned tables upside down, put tape all over the classroom, made a big mess outside and today he took our carpet and all of our pens! We had to go on an Evil Pea hunt around the school. He ended up being kind and giving us back our pens. All week the children have been engrossed and there has been lots of writing!
