Love is all you need

In worship this week, we are looking ahead to the 6th Sunday of Easter. This Sunday is dedicated to the greatest commandment - love one another. Jesus explains to his disciples that they can do away with all other rules and commandments and guidelines and laws. If you want to build heaven on earth, it's simple: just love one another.

However, we all know of course, it isn't simple and it isn't easy. Being called to love one another asks great service and sacrifice from each of us. It is the simplest and most difficult command all in one. Nevertheless, we strive to enact this commandment because we know that God resides in every human being, and if God resides in every human being then I must learn to love everyone in order to love God.

RSE Consultation

In response to the new Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Statutory framework introduced by the Government, we are consulting with parents on the school's approach. RSE has always been embedded within our school ethos and mission but we are pleased to be offering parents a more formal platform to share their views, questions and suggestions.

As always, within Yr 5-6, we will continue to inform parents before the teaching of more sensitive issues in SRE by sending a letter home and inviting parents to a meeting to discuss content and resources used. During this month we celebrate Cultural Diversity Day - 21st May.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development aims to encourage people to ‘live together better’. Did you know, at St Joseph’s we speak Polish, Hungarian, Italian, Filipino, French, German, Mandarin and so many more?

To keep your mind forever learning, perhaps ask a friend this week to teach you some new words in their language? Or you could download a learning language app and spend a few minutes a day learning a new skill! We can’t wait to hear what you have been learning!

The love of Christ

Join Mrs Knight on a journey through space in this week's Witness Worship. As we explore the universe, Mrs Knight helps us to see that we can sometimes be like blackholes: sucking the goodness, kindness, compassion and love out of all those who sacrifice their lives for us.

However, there is hope! Scientists believe that there is also something called a white hole - a phenomena that produces light and matter. Mrs Knight helps us to recognise that Jesus is just like a white hole - nothing can stop him from shining his perfect light in our lives and opening our eyes (and ears) to the call to love our neighbour. He is the ultimate witness to the power of love.

Paint with the Spirit

As Year 2 look towards the solemnity of Pentecost Sunday, they have been inspired by this incredible event to express the power and beauty of the Holy Spirit in through their artwork.

Sharing the love

1F were very inspired by the origami hearts in this week's Gospel Assembly. They have been asking Miss Egan all week if they can make them!

While children were wrestling with the paper folding, it was lovely to see that, if a child was struggling, another child in the class that was more confident would go and help (without being asked!) They would keep going back to check on, reassure and help them with each fold. That really is love in action.

St Margaret's Assembly on Love

In worship this week, St Margaret's Class take the lead. They explain the many different ways we can see and experience love - especially through our words and actions.

2M help us to see that God's love is alive and thriving in our world, especially through the personal relationships that we nurture with all people in our community.

Musical Year 3

A very musical morning in Year 3 on Thursday! In Music lessons, the children are enjoying keeping the pulse of the song in various ways, for example clapping, tapping their table, bouncing up and down. We are learning it is the 'heartbeat' of the song.

Today the children used glockenspiels to improvise their own melody using the note 'C'. It was lovely to hear their ideas. In weeks to come we will be using our improvisations in a song.

Stop that man!

The children in Year 4 this week wrote a letter to persuade Mr Collins that permanent homeschooling was not a good idea. They were shocked at even the suggestion and felt Mr Collins needed to be stopped in his tracks!
