B - 5th Easter

Connected to Christ

In worship this week, we'll be considering the theme of relationships as we look ahead to the 5th Sunday of Easter. Jesus says, "I am the vine, you are the branches." He helps us to understand that he lives in us and we can choose to live in him.

One of the most powerful ways we can see the evidence of that choice is through the different relationships that connect us. The quality of our personal relationships bears a direct correlation to the success of our community. If we see, respect and take time to nurture our relationships, we will bear the fruits of God's Holy Spirit aplenty. By engaging in healthy, harmonious relationships, we can see the presence of Christ in each other and help to build his kingdom here on earth.

Year 5 Alive!

Despite having no residential trip this year, our fabulous Year 5 children have enjoyed engaging in some of the learning and social experiences they would have enjoyed on the Isle of Wight.

During the week they learnt about coastal defenses; how they work, the advantages and disadvantages of each of them and whether they are cost effective or not. Once they had all this information they were able to write a balanced argument: should the coast at Ventnor be defended?

In Topic , children recapped OS Map skills and then used clay to help represent contour lines before tracking the elevation from the East Dene Centre to the summit of Nanson Hill. All of their hard work was rewarded with a fun afternoon on the field (with pizza, ice cream and games!)

Powerful Relationships

In Witness Worship this week, Miss Chetwood takes us on a journey to Italy. She shares with us the remarkable power of relationships as seen through the eyes of Saint Don Bosco - a man who put his relationship with Christ and other people at the heart of his life's work.

Famously, Don Bosco is the founder of the Salesian order; a group of brothers and sisters who commit their lives to the service of young people. At the heart of their approach is the fundamental belief that a shared relationship between home, Church and school is the most powerful way for a child to meet Christ. What an inspirational witness to the importance of relationships, thank you Miss Chetwood!

Reach for the stars!

Children in Reception have had their eyes on the stars this week - learning all about space. The children have absolutely loved discovering more about the universe and sharing the facts they have heard with each other. I am confident that NASSA's next employee might be one of our Reception cohort!

This epic masterpiece captures perfectly the energy, creativity and excitement that this project has sparked in Reception. Reach for those stars children!

Up, up and away in Year 6

Exceptional effort and outcomes from Year 6 this week, as they published their final 'flashback' stories based on the Pixar movie animation - "Up!" Children loved putting themselves in the shoes of the seemingly grumpy, yet lovable protagonist (Carl) and sharing his story in the form of flashback writing. Awesome job Year 6!

Do you believe in unicorns?

Last week, Year 2 returned from lunch and discovered a unicorn had been in their classrooms!

After investigating the findings, this week they decided to learn about different types of unicorn. Children have been busy writing non-chronological reports all about their discoveries and the unique features of the unicorns they have researched.

However, it's still unclear one visited the classrooms...

2E Assembly - Relationships

Relationships make us stronger

In a beautiful class worship, 2E have explored the many different ways we experience relationships. They explain that our relationship with Christ is exactly the same as the relationship between a stem and a flower: the stem holds the plant up, allowing it to grow and flourish. It is the same with Christ - he is the vine and we are the branches.

St Edward's Class help us to see that there are many different types of relationship in our lives and that, through each of them, we can encounter Christ Jesus.

Year 1 take to the skies

Year One have been exploring their new topic, 'A History of Transport'. They started off with hot air balloons, and moved on to flying machines and Samuel Cody's first flight. The children have loved learning new facts and have been making some of their own flying machines.

Year 4 explore Easter

There have been some remarkable response to RE tasks in Year 4 over the last couple of weeks. Children have been challenged to create a Triptych based on Easter Sunday as well as discussing the events of Pentecost and how it affected the lives of the apostles and our lives today.

Super Zippo!

In this week's bedtime story, Miss Hilborn helps us (and Zippo) to learn that we are all superheroes...with our own, unique, super powers!
