RELIGION: The children will learn how to manage their feelings in healthy ways. We will discuss the need to be sensitive to the feelings of others and the importance of asking for forgiveness.

SOCIAL STUDIES and SCIENCE: Seasons/Weather  The children will continue learning about the four seasons, each bringing different weather and changes to plants and animals. We will also be learning about different types of weather and some effects it has on people and the environment.  We will do this through songs, sorting activities, observing nature to understand time’s flow, reading books and class discussions. 

Martin Luther King Jr.  The children will understand MLK’s dream by grasping the simple idea that everyone should be treated fairly and that people can be friends and get along. We will do an art project, read books, and do an egg project to show that our skin colors may be different but our hearts are all the same.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  We are focusing on one letter each day through fun and engaging activities. Last week we completed the letters Qq-Uu, and this week we will be working with the letters Vv-Zz. The children will be sorting and tracing letters, adding to their alphabet booklet, and participating in a variety of other letter activities. We will be learning the new sight words: a, like. Homework:  Practice identifying all the letters of the alphabet - uppercase and lowercase.

 Week of September 15th:

RELIGION:   The children will be learning that the bible is a very holy and special book. We will discuss that when they attend mass, they hear God’s story and God’s word.

MATH:  We will be working on recognizing, creating, and extending repeating patterns of shapes and I will introduce the numbers 0 to 4. 

LANGUAGE ARTS:  We are focusing on one letter each day through fun and engaging activities. Last week we completed the letters Gg-Kk, and this week we will be working with the letters Ll-Pp. The children will be sorting and tracing letters, adding to their alphabet booklet, and participating in a variety of other letter activities. We will be learning 2 new sight words: the,we. List #1 was sent home last Monday for your child to practice at home. 

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Where Do You Live?:The children will understand that they can describe where they live in different ways. We will talk about knowing their phone number, address, city, and state.  

SCIENCE: Apples:The children will learn about the life cycle of an apple by observing apples, learning the parts of the apple and how the apple grows.
