Good Morning
I hope everybody is snow ready. Lots of excitement for this Monster Storm and No Food in the Stores:) It's Catholic Schools Week; so of course the weather is going to give us some problems.
I am really proud of my class for their Star Testing scores, treating my hard working students to ice cream next week. Hopefully they will keep up the good work. You keep pushing from home and I will keep pushing in school. They can do it!
You can check Math test grades on Facts. Students were also to complete Science B.1 B.2 and B.3 yesterday. You can check facts to see if your child completed the sections. There is one grade for all three. If there is no grade, please have them complete those sections. They are on solids, liquids, and gases.
Yesterday I told the kids about a fun experiment that you would be able to do at home that is really cool. I have done it and it works. The weather today, tomorrow (however I don't think it will be as much fun with it already snowing) and Tuesday. I have done this experiment with temperatures in the low 20's. Throwing boiling water into the cold air causes it to instantly turn into a cloud of ice crystals. The hot water evaporates and then condenses into freezing droplets. It creates a snow effect. I did just try it and it did work. Do not throw the water over your head for safety---not cold enough for that. Throw it out in front and away from people or pets. Nightime gives you a better effect.
I guess we can safely say Monday is a no school day---everyone enjoy the snow. Sadly it is our last snow day.
Should Tuesday be a no school day; it will be a flex day. I did change the assignments. Do not complete, we may get lucky and be in school on Tuesday.
The assignments are as follows:
Math: IXL C.3 and F.2. Work on Facts- TimesTable.com or on IXL.
English: IXL. L.2 (reading section)
Packet Verb pages- 50-51-52-53
Work on the book report. If there is no school the book report will be due Friday, January 30th. If there is school, the book report will be due February 2nd. Students are to fill our the worksheet with at least 4-5 facts about their person (I know they can do more than 2 that is on the worksheet) The worksheet should be filled out neatly in cursive handwriting. The stamp should be handdrawn (can trace from a picture). No white space on the stamp. On the stamp, somewhere it should have USA and cost. They can make it a Forever stamp with just the word Forever somewhere on the stamp; preferably a corner.
Science: Foldable on Matter- Solids, Liquids, and Gases. We started it in class--Labeled the front-with squares of how the molecules are assembled. Must have a picture on the front and inside 3 facts about each. You can google facts about solids, liquids, and gases for third graders or kids. This will be due on Wednesday.
If you. have any questions please email me. I will be checking my email frequently throughout the day.
Happy Shoveling and enjoy the snow.
