Happy December, Let the festivities commence along with the craziness. I do hope everyone had a wonder Thanksgiving break.
Well wondering what tomorrow brings with the first possible snowfall. Well, I just learned Easton closed so I am rewriting this note. Since we are off tomorrow, there will be no Spelling Test this week. I will hold off Spelling until next week. We will not have any tests this week at all.
In English, I am reviewing pronouns for a day and then I am giving a worksheet teacher led questions as a quiz. We will then be writing, writing, writing. We will be creating a story about how Santa got stuck in the chimney and how he solves his problem. He may need a little help from an elf or two. Following our story writing, we will create a shape poem with Christmas being the theme. Anyone can create a shape poem. Once the kids see how they are created, they really roll them out.
I hope everyone is practicing their facts as we are into the division chapter. I am planning to work with small groups on enrichment. Some are really looking for those more difficult problems to solve. Can't squelch their enthusiasm, so I have the okay to provide enrichment. This is only enrichment and it will not be tested. To be in the small groups, students need to be fluent with their facts. We will meet once or twice a week. We will see how it goes.
I hope everyone is reading their chapter book. I did send home what we are doing that next to last week before vacation. The objective of the book report is to entice someone to want to read your book. I did it in fifth grade and it will work in third grade too. The kids will create a picture to go on their desk with a few props to help tell a part of their chapter book. They are not to give the ending away, because they want to get someone to want to read their book.
After reading the One and Only Ivan, in journals most kids told me they liked the movie better much to my disappointment. However, they all want to read the sequels to The One and Only Ivan. So did they really like the movie better???
We will be working on communities in Social Studies for the next few weeks. We will be learning about what communities provide us and what we can do to help our community be successful.
The kids have voted to treat a classmate to an extra snack. We are calling it, "I've been elfed." It is much like the "I've been ghosted" that some people do in October. I am providing small bags for the treats. You can just add something from home, there is no need to buy extra things. I will be starting it off the first day we get back to school. Please do send something in as we don't want the chain to be broken and we want everyone to be treated before the holiday. Thank you for helping the kids have some extra fun.
