Hello 3rd Grade Families,
I hope that this short week has flown by for all of you. This week we were able to tie up some loose ends and were able to review some of the critical skills we have been working on! This week we did the following:
ELA
In ELA, the troops finished their poetry unit by reading three different poems, a limerick, a free verse, and a narrative poem. They learned how poems are structured and each poem was focused on a person who is inspirational, either in their past or in our society today.
Spelling and Grammar:
In spelling the troops took a middle of the year assessment that will be discussed during conferences.
Unit 21 words will be next week.
In grammar, they reviewed old vocabulary words and dove into how idioms and similes are used in writing.
Religion:
In religion we attend mass and begin to talk about the three pillars of Lent.
Math:
In math this week we completed the following:
Wednesday: Test Preparation
Thursday: Test and two digit by one digit multiplication
Friday: Review of comparing numbers over 1000
Science:
In science this week we began a new unit over unbalanced and unbalanced forces. Students were introduced to this concept through a game of tug of war and by analyzing the components of the experiment.
Other News:
MATH FACTS
Please continue to practice multiplication math facts at home.
Next week we will continue to dive deeper into division. If students are not fluent in multiplication, division will be a great struggle for them. This is one of the biggest challenges in this grade is to learn these facts. However, it is essential that they are fluent for many years to come, especially when they move downstairs to middle school.
Snow Situations
If the temperature is above twenty degrees fahrenheit we will go outside for recess. This means students will need to bring snow pants, boots, hats, gloves, and a warm winter jacket in order to participate.
Please send these things in a bag with your student, that way we prevent mix up items.
We will more than likely go outside for recess next week!
Mass Roles for Wednesday, March 2nd (ALL SCHOOL FFF MASS)
Server: Ryleigh
Petitions: Torri
Upcoming Dates:
Ash Wednesday (March 2nd)
Conference Week (March 15th - 19th)
In addition to conference week, I sent home a bright pink sheet with the students today. Please fill it out prior to conferences and have your student bring it back as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful weekend!
God bless,
Miss Heather Freund

Hello 3rd Grade Families,
I hope all of you have had a wonderful week. This week was full of love, work, fun, and gratefulness as we wrap up Catholic Schools Week. I love teaching all of your children and I am extremely grateful to have celebrated this week with you all! Some of the troops favorite things we did were going to mass, the bowling alley, trivia, and watching the spelling bee. Besides that, we managed to:
ELA
In ELA, the troops re-visited the genre of expository text. During which they learned eight new vocabulary words, explored sentence clues, mastered prefixes, and were able to take a deep dive into how animals adapt to challenges in their habitats.
Among that, during writing time, the troops are still putting the final touches on their realistic fiction stories.
Spelling and Grammar:
In spelling the troops focused on the /oo/ phonemes that flexed to the sound “uh”. They learned the two different ways to spell the sound, and when to apply them.
In grammar, they learned about past, present, and future helping verbs.
Religion:
In religion we continued to read the verses that come from the rosary. This week we read the scripture focused on the luminous mysteries, and next week we will focus on the sorrowful mysteries. We also participated in two different masses.
Math:
In math this week we continued to expand our knowledge on fractions by relating them to decimals. The kiddos also took a test, and explored capacity through the gallon man!
Social Studies:
In social studies we continued our map unit by practicing skills in scales, hemispheres, and next week we will focus on grid lines in latitude and longitude.
