Hello 3rd Grade Families,
I hope you all have had a great short week! Some of the troops’ favorite things these past few days have been, advent activities, writing their own fables, and getting back into their math books. Amongst these things the troops also managed to learn:
ELA
To start ELA this week we reviewed some of the characteristics of folktales / fables by reading the book “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs”. After which, we dissected the book and used it as a model to inspire the writing process of creating our own fables which they will finish up next week.
Spelling / Phonics
In spelling this week the troops reviewed r-controlled vowels and the different spellings of er, ar, and or.
Grammar
In grammar the troops learned how to write in the future tense and how to correctly write addresses, and book titles.
Religion
In religion this week the troops completed several advent activities and studied how we can bring peace in the coming of the Lord.
Math
Monday: We completed Lesson 26 and learned how to properly draw fractions by focusing on the importance of numerators, denominators, and equal parts.
Tuesday: We completed Lesson 27 and the troops used clock manipulatives to work on elapsed time.
Wednesday: NO SCHOOL
Thursday: The kiddos completed lesson 30 by using base ten blocks to learn regrouping subtraction with three digit numbers.
Friday: Snowball Review Game
The troops will have a math test Tuesday.
Upcoming Dates:
Christmas Cookie Party - December 14th from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Pick up will be by the south doors just like normal dismissal.
No mass on Wednesday or Christmas Program
All School Mass Friday
Early dismissal Friday with No SACC

Hello 3rd Grade Families,
I hope you all have had a blessed week! I hope everyone’s week was full of hope in honor of the beginning of the Advent season. Some of the troops’ favorite things these past few days have been, multiplication stations, confession, illustrating the nativity, and Falcon Faith Families. Amongst these things the troops also managed to learn:
ELA
In ELA this week the troops were introduced to the genre of folktales. They received eight new vocabulary words and read two different stories in this genre. On Thursday they did a writing exercise that challenged them to see the story from the Cuban author’s perspective. Finally, on Friday they took a test over their vocabulary words and their comprehension of the story.
Spelling / Phonics
In spelling this week the troops practiced more on r-controlled vowels for the /er/ phoneme. They now know four different ways to spell out the er sound.
Grammar
In grammar the troops learned how to write in the past tense and more about abbreviations.
Religion
In religion this week the troops attended two different masses and were introduced to the season of Advent. They learned about different religious artifacts we use for advent such as the wreath, the advent calender, the nativity, and etc. They also completed an Advent packet that went over the first week of Advent’s theme which is hope. Finally, on Friday after practicing an examination of concise through the National Catholic Registry, the kiddos were very prepared and excited for confession.
Math
Monday: Multiplication Stations
Tuesday: Reviewed 6’s and introduced 7’s facts.
Wednesday: Reviewed 7’’s facts and introduced 8’s facts.
Thursday: Reviewed 8’s facts and introduced beyond 10’s facts.
Friday: Multiplication Day
Congrats to all the third graders for learning all the strategies of multiplication! I am excited to see them progress in this skill throughout the year.
Next week we will be back in our math textbooks but will continue to practice multiplication facts.
Starting in January we will be testing their multiplication fact fluency.
