Hello 3rd Grade Families,
Thank you so much for all the love and support this week whether it was for teacher appreciation, Sue Siepel day, or May Crowning. Everyone felt all your love! Here are some of the things we did this week:
ELA /SS
In SS this week we wrapped up our economics unit and the sutdents presented their work to the 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade classes.
In ELA we started our argumentative unit by examining two different non-fiction texts about the usage of different kinds of energy we use. To wrap up the week, the students had to write an argumentative paper over why students should use chairs! It was so fun to see them put their heads together in a unique way.
Spelling and Grammar
In spelling this week the troops learned about the 1-1-1 doubling rule which is where if a word has one syllable, one vowel, and one consonant, they must double the consonant.
In grammar, we were introduced to adverbs that describe nouns and verbs about when something happens.
Religion
In religion this week we learned about the different celebrations of Mary and Prepared for May Crowning.
Math
In math this week we learned about another type of division word problems and about squares and cubes.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday May 13th: Mother's Day Picnic at 11:00 and Mother's Day Tea at 1:00 (Both of these events will be back to back and if you as a mother cannot make it, please send a female representative in your place!)
Monday May 16th: SACC Museum Field Trip
Thursday May 19th: Field day at 12
Friday May 20th: Last Day of School 11:00 dismissal
I hope all of you have a great weekend!
4/1/22
Hello 3rd Grade Families,
I hope all of you have had a wonderful week and hopefully the weather only gets warmer from here! Some of the things we did this week include:
ELA /S.S.
In ELA, the troops were introduced to their brand new novel study, The Lemonade War. This study is very intensive and combines most reading strategies that we have applied this school year. This week they included text connections, point of view, cause and effect, setting, and situation vs reaction.
This unit is to foreshadow how economics can be included in a child’s life, while immersing them in real applicable vocabulary such as; goods, services, marketplace, profit, producers, consumers, competition, types of resources, entrepreneurs, and many more to come! It also has them apply multiplication and division skills throughout the novel.
This week we have read Chapters 1-5. After every two chapters the students are given a quiz to monitor their comprehension along the way. The kids are also allowed to use their books during the quiz if they want the recall information. This process will continue throughout the novel study.
We will finish this book right before Easter Break. Their final summative project will be when they return to school. (More details to come as the date approaches.)
(Disclaimer: You will not see Lemonade War Packets being sent home until the completion of this unit because it is in a spiral packet. If you have questions regarding this, please contact me directly.)
Spelling and Grammar:
In spelling the troops learned the difference between soft c and g sounds and hard g and c sounds. They applied the rule that anytime the vowels, i, e, or y come after a “c” or “g” it makes a soft sound.
In grammar, they worked on identifying the differences between contractions and possessives.
Religion:
In religion this week we have been to adoration, falcon faith family masss, and have practiced and presented the Stations of the Cross. Thank you to all who came to support the kids!
Math:
In math this week we completed the following:
Monday: Lesson 54: Rounding to the nearest 1000
Tuesday: Lesson 55: Prime and composite numbers
Wednesday: Practice Test
Thursday: Test
Friday: Was a combined art and math project over symmetry.
