NYU Stream is NYU's officially supported video platform. It includes a wide range of functionality, including video hosting, maintaining user-contributed collections, the creation of animations with Powtoon, and integrations with NYU Brightspace.
This makes it an incredibly powerful tool, but also one that can be a little intimidating at first. Don't worry! You don't need to understand all of the platform's functionality to start using it. You can visit the NYU Stream information page to learn about its full range of features, but for now, we'll talk about the tools it makes available for recording video. Later, we'll talk about how to host video on NYU Stream and share it with students by adding it to your course sites.
Express Capture is a recording tool that works right within your web browser without the need to install additional software. It's the quickest and easiest way to record with NYU Stream.
Video that is recorded with Express Capture is immediately uploaded to NYU Stream for sharing.

One caveat with NYU Stream's recording tools is that they are tied to NYU Stream as a hosting provider. Express Capture will automatically upload your recording to your NYU Stream account. Kaltura Capture will store recordings on your computer in addition to uploading them, but the process for accessing them is a little clunky.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. NYU Stream is very capable at hosting video, especially if it's intended for an NYU-specific audience. If you want to make video available to people from outside NYU, however, you probably will need to keep your video on another service.
You can download your videos from NYU Stream to host elsewhere if you want to, but it does add another step to the process. We'll discuss that more in the Hosting section.
