Mrs. Bonar teaches all 6th-grade Language Arts classes.
English/ Language Arts – Textbook: Grammar for Writing McDougal Littell
St. Stephen’s uses Grammar for Writing for the 6th-grade ELA curriculum. Students will also practice Spelling skills using the Spelling Connections curriculum that focuses on word meanings and structure, vowel changes, sounds, and patterns. Grammar lessons, parts of speech, as well as creative writing opportunities will be practiced throughout our week, too. Students will use a daily binder (kept in my classroom) to record these skills and lessons. We will also practice ELA skills using our IXL online program that students can access on their Chromebook.
If a student is absent when we take the assessments, they will be given a paper copy when they return to school to take the weekly assessment.
To promote continued reading, writing, and comprehension, I will lead ELA students through the following novels
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry By Mildred D. Taylor
Freak The Mighty by Rodman PhilBrick
Students will complete a writing analysis with spelling and grammar practice.
*All grammar/ writing grades will be recorded under Language Arts in Facts*. Mrs. Bonar can be contacted at a.bonar@stephen.org
