5th Grade Language Arts

Textbooks: 

Voyages in English Grammar and Writing, Spelling Connections and Simple Solutions

Our textbook, Voyages, incorporates grammar as well as writing skills.  The students will take notes in their grammar notebook and have a writing activities to complete after most lessons. Students will complete Spelling packets each week and will take a unit Spelling quiz on most Tuesdays.  St. Stephen’s also uses Simple Solutions for daily grammar practice with grammar quizzes on Wednesdays. 

Students will use writing prompts for creative writing and for practicing the 6 Traits. We will focus on the 5-step writing process, Narrative, Opinion (Persuasive), Informative, poetry, and figurative language.   

We will also utilize IXL computer program to practice ELA skills during class time.
