8.35 Children arrive and complete their morning work. This may be news or handwriting for example.

Usually, we have maths and literacy before lunch at 12pm and then our foundation subjects in the afternoon.

The children have an afternoon play at 2pm and we finish the day with a story or circle time at 3pm.

Year 1 Homework

Homework

Homework is given out on Thursdays to be handed in on the following Wednesday. This will support learning in class and could be linked to either Literacy, Numeracy, R.E or Science. 

Reading

We encourage children to read at least 5 times a week for 10 minutes. Children will receive 2 books which we change every Monday. Please date, sign and write a comment in their reading record book. 

Children will also be assigned an online book every Thursday on the Oxford Owl website. This will either be the book they have been reading in their phonics sessions or a reading quiz.

Spellings are given for each half term.

In Autumn 1 the children get 5 spellings to learn each week and these are tested every Wednesday. 

Throughout the year these will increase to 7 and possibly 10 spellings to learn each week. 

Spellings are linked to phonic sounds and key words and will match the learning in class.
