Autumn 1 - Animals including humans - Ourselves
In this topic we will be learning to identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body. We will also learn about which part of the body is associated with each sense. We will use our senses to compare different textures, sounds, tastes and smells.
Seasonal change
During the Autumn term, we will begin our journey observing the seasons throughout the year. We will begin to observe the changes from Autumn to Winter. We will observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.
Autumn 2 - Everyday materials
In this topic, we will be learning to distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made. We will learn to identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock. We will then explore and describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials.
Autumn 1 - Computer Systems and Networks
In this unit, we will be learning how to use computers for a purpose. The children will learn how to navigate different programs, drag, drop, click and control a cursor to create works of art.
Autumn 2 - Algorithms Unplugged
This unplugged topic takes our children away from computers to relate algorithms, decomposition and debugging to familiar contexts, such as dressing up, drawing a picture, following directions or making a sandwich while learning why their instructions need to be specific and unambiguous.
Autumn 1 - Make your mark!
We will be exploring mark making and line; working and experimenting with different materials through observational and collaborative pieces.
In Autumn 2 - DT - Mechanisms and sliders
In this unit, the children experiment with sliders before planning and making their own moving story book, based on a familiar story. They will draw the page backgrounds, make the moving parts and assemble it.
We get inspiration from the artist Bridget Riley.
Autumn 2 - Directions
During this topic, the children will learn to use simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language [for example, near and far; left and right], to describe the location of features and routes on a map.
Knights and Castles Day
Autumn 1 - Knights and Castles
Key Question: Why were castles built a long, long time ago?
During this topic, we begin to develop an awareness of the past and the passing of time. We will start to look at chronology and the similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. We will start to understand some of the ways in which we find out about the past.
We celebrate the end of the topic with a knights and castles day where we dress up, practise our archery skills, have a joust, design shields and re-enact the battle of Hastings.

Autumn 1 - Dance and Athletics
Autumn 2 - Games and Gym
Athletics
Children explore running, jumping and throwing activities, and take part in simple challenges and competitions. They experiment with different ways of travelling, throwing and jumping, increasing their awareness of speed and distance.
Dance
Children will focus on spatial awareness and being able to move confidently and safely in their own and general space whilst exploring basic agility, balance and coordination skills. They create and repeat a variety of short dances inspired by a range of stimuli. They work individually, in pairs, small groups and as a whole class. They will develop an awareness of different dances through a range of themes.
Gym
Children investigate movement, stillness and how to find and use a space safely. They explore basic gymnastic actions on the floor and using apparatus. They copy or create, remember and repeat, short movement phrases of linked actions such as jumps or rolls.
Games
Children will develop their basic game playing skills, in particular throwing and catching. They will play games based on net games like tennis and badminton and games based on striking and fielding like rounders and cricket. They have the opportunity to play one against one, one against two and one against three.
Visit from the police to discuss the importance of diversity and respect.

RSE - 'Life to the Full'
Module 1: Created and Loved by God This unit explores the individual. Rooted in the teaching that we are created by God out of love and for love we will develop an understanding of the importance of valuing ourselves as the basis for personal relationships.
Unit 1 – Religious Understanding introduces children to the story from the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus welcomed all of the little children to come to Him. The five-story sessions encourage children to understand that they are created by God out of love and for love.
Module 2: Created to Love Others explores the individual’s relationship with others. This module explores how we take the Gospel message into our family, friendships and relationships. We will explore strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.
Unit 1 – Religious Understanding begins with an adapted version of the Prodigal Son story to show children that God loves us, and nothing we can do will stop Him from loving us.
