Summer 1 - Sculptures and Collages
On the theme of the natural world, we will make sculptures, collages, 3D models of creatures and a class spider sculpture, inspired by Louise Bourgeois.
Summer 2 - D&T - Puppets
In this unit, we will first be exploring methods of joining fabric. We will then design and make a character-based hand puppet using a preferred joining technique, before decorating. In groups, we will then be using our puppets to perform our own puppet shows.
Summer 1 - Introduction to Data
We will learn what data is and the different ways that it can be represented, both with and without a computer before developing our understanding of why data is useful, how it can be used and ways in which it can be gathered and recorded both by humans and computers.
Summer 2 - Seaside Showcase
Children will be given their own Google logins this term. We will be learning to log on to a Chromebook and open up a Google slides presentation. We will be revising lots of the skills learnt this year linked to our topic of the seaside.
Summer 2 - comparing seasides to cities
In Geography we will be finding out about seaside towns in each of the four countries of the UK and identifying features of coastal environments. We will focus on basic geographical vocabulary including: beach, cliff, coast, sea, ocean, river, city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office, port, harbour and shop.
The Punch and Judy show comes to visit us on our Seaside Day.
Summer 2 - Seasides in the past
In History this half term we will investigate what we like about seaside holidays today before taking a look back to Victorian seaside holidays, why they became popular and how they have changed since. We will compare seaside holidays now to seaside holidays in the past and develop a chronological understanding of changes.
This term the children will be learning
how to use word patterns as a method of memorising and maintaining an ostinato rhythm.
They will explore how to create a musical backing to a short story using a variety of different sound effects.
Through listening to contrasting pieces of music eg:‘ Flight of the Bumble Bee’ by Rimsky-Korsakov ‘ and ‘Aquarium’ from ‘Carnival of the Animals, the children will exploring different tempi and dynamics in music.
Gym
Children investigate movement, stillness and how to find and use a space safely. They explore basic gymnastic actions on the floor and using apparatus. They copy or create, remember and repeat, short movement phrases of linked actions such as jumps or rolls.
Dance
Children will focus on spatial awareness and being able to move confidently and safely in their own and general space whilst exploring basic agility, balance and coordination skills. They create and repeat a variety of short dances inspired by a range of stimuli. They work individually, in pairs, small groups and as a whole class. They will develop an awareness of different dances through a range of themes.
Athletics - Children explore running, jumping and throwing activities, and take part in challenges and competitions. They experiment with different ways of travelling, throwing and jumping, increasing their awareness of speed and distance.
Summer 1 - Animals
The children identify and name a variety of common animals and begin to categorise them into their groups: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We then identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Summer 2 - Wonderful Weather - Seasonal change
During the Summer term we observe changes across all four seasons. The children observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.
Bounceback
In Summer 1 we will be focusing on being safe. We will learn what bullying is and isn't, that bullying is never ok and how we can support ourselves and others in a bullying situation.
RSE - 'Life to the Full'
In Summer 2 we will be learning that God is love: Father, Son and Holy Spirit and to start to think about the concept of the Trinity. We will think about being made in His image and that this means being called to be loved and to love others.
We will study the story of The Good Samaritan and the children will learn who their neighbour is – everyone! We will have an opportunity to reflect on what this means for us and our community.
