Our Eramus adventure, which started with a New Year's event, continues in these days when we are preparing to say hello to 2023. We display the colorful New Year cards prepared by our students in the Erasmus corner we have created, and we celebrate the new year of our project partners with our sincere wishes. Loves from Turkey
Sustainability is also about making the world a better place for animals. Students celebrated this special date a prepared this presetnation to share with the partner schools
On Thursday, April 7, the Seed bomb making workshop was held with the participation of Greece, England, Italy and Poland, which was planned by Turkey. The children formed tiny balls using waste paper, soil and seeds and left them to dry. In this activity, we both contributed to the recycling of paper waste and newspaper pieces and ensured the easy propagation of plant seeds. I wish the only bomb that all humanity will be exposed to is the SEED bomb
We created the Corner Erasmus in a central place of our school. The inspiration came from the countries flags and their colours that created a composition of lines.White and blue for Greece. Green, red and white for Italy. Red for Turkey. Dark blue and red for England, red and white for Poland. The lines in the composition symbolize the process, unity and solidarity between the Erasmus partner countries. It is a color chart, a base for the children to create images for the protection of the environment, sending the message "change the world","save our planet".
On Saturday night, March 26, with the call of our school science teacher Figen Uzun, we called on our students and parents to turn off the lights for one hour to support the fight against the climate crisis. We know that 1 hour is not enough to change the present, but it will definitely be a beacon of hope to illuminate the future of the planet. Because all big changes start with a little awareness.
Nazim TAŞABAT is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to sustainable life in our school. He has been one of our school's staff and one of our parents for years. Thanks to him, recycling, inspiration and art take their place on the walls, corridors, garden of our school and in life. The fact that he transforms old desks, broken clocks and unused iron waste into art every year inspires both us teachers and our students. Each transformed object is either used for a new purpose in our school in its most artistic form or as a decorative piece to greet all stakeholders. Our students have the opportunity to support their minds and creativity with these ideas throughout the year. I hope it inspires all our project partners.
In the week from 8th to 12th of March our school took part to a project organised by the non-profit organization Legambiente called "Nontiscordardime" Clean Schools Operation. The activity aims to teach students the importance of taking care of their schools and in particular of the common areas. Our children worked in our school garden where they removed weed, sweeped paths, planted flowers and, of course, they had lots of fun.
'Marteniçka' bracelets reminded us of itself with the start of March. These bracelets are handmade and cannot be purchased, only gifted and attached to the wrist with a humble wish. During March, when you see a swallow or stork, the bracelets are tied to the branch of a blooming fruit tree. The white color represents health and the red color represents power and everyone is considered to have gifted these two values to each other. We wish health, strength, abundance, abundance and peace to all our project partners.
Our students with special learning difficulties at our school took on the responsibility of taking care of them by planting red pine saplings until they turned into saplings. When the conditions are ripe, we will plant the seedlings together in suitable areas. We know and share that the continuity of ecology is the responsibility of each individual
As part of the sustainable eating activity, our children started a vegetable garden at school. We carried over a four-weeks period we carried ot some soil preparation activities and we planted different winter garden products: fennel, rainbow chard, lettuce, escarole, savoy cabbage. In the nearby greenhouse we planted aromatic herbs from the seeds and strawberries. Finally, we planted flowers such as buttercups, carnation, primroses and cyclames in vases located in the garden area.
As part of the Erasmus + program "What a wonderful world", an orchard is being built in our school! One of the aims of our project is the change of public space - in this case, the space of our school, to a sustainable development area. The area should serve others for years to come, it should also support the ecological thinking of young generations and develop ecological sensitivity of adults. As a result, we decided to plant 22 fruit trees - cherries, pears, apple trees, peaches. We arranged the trees for future flowering and pollination. Ultimately, we will place houses for insects and bird feeders there.
ERASMUS DAYS - IC IV STANZIALE OCTOBER 2021
To celebrate Erasmus days we organised some special activities with our kids aimed to raise awareness about sustainability, the theme chosen for our project. Children form 3rd grade danced on the notes of "What a wonderful world" each kid wishing the fullfillment of one of the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda. Students from the 5th grade prepared some artwork by using recycled or natural materials such as rise, beans, cardboard.
Students from 8th grade prepared some posters on which they wrote a message to adults about their hopes and their concerns related to the climate crisis. All the posters have been exposed in the school atrium on the Erasmus Wall.
ERASMUS DAYS - Mustafa Üstündağ Secondary Schoo OCTOBER 2021
Within the scope of Erasmus days, we carried out many activities in our school. First of all, an environmental volunteer psychologist, whom we invited to our school, organized a seminar on climate change, global warming, waste and waste separation. After the event, our students were given lapel badges made of recycled materials by another class. This event was very useful for our students to both express their own experiences and find answers to their questions.
On Saturday, October 16, a nature walk and voluntary environmental cleaning were carried out in the picnic area in our neighborhood with the participation of our students, teachers, parents, municipality and non-governmental organizations.
The Erasmus corner project corner we created at our school was designed to be renewed during our project and was created using recycled materials with the contribution of our students. For example, the lighting of this area was designed using old pots, visuals and drawings, and used boxes. It has been prepared with the aim of informing all students in our school by sharing all announcements and activities related to our project in this area.
The Turkish teachers of our school have prepared an Erasmus newspaper that tells about the aims and objectives of our project, and all the activities that have been done so far and will be held in the future. In this newspaper, there are many information, news and explanations such as information about Stem, suggestions for documentaries and movies to watch about the environment and climate change, explanations about what sustainability is, recycling activities in our school. The income of this newspaper, which was put up for sale by students, will be spent on the purchase of food for stray animals.
In order to raise awareness about the love of nature, a photography contest called 'My most beautiful day in nature' was organized. While our winner was awarded, the photographs taken by all our students participating in the competition were exhibited in the Erasmus corner.
As a Stem event, we worked on the relationship between sustainability and the environment. After small explanations were given to our students about sustainability and environment, our students were divided into groups of 5. The groups were asked to design the tallest and most durable tower using spaghetti. Each group was given 20 pieces of spaghetti and 12 pieces of marshmallows as ingredients. The groups completed their designs in 20 minutes. We determined the most durable towers among the designs they created. Each group also had the opportunity to examine the designs of their other friends and compare them with their own designs.
EXCHANGE OF UNIFORMS FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE LIFE STYLE - Mustafa Üstündağ Secondary Schoo
SEPTEMER 2021
As Mustafa Üstündağ Secondary School, we are aware that a sustainable life is an important investment for both our world and our future. Due to the pandemic, as in many parts of the world, distance education activities were carried out in our school. School uniforms may not have been needed in this process, but we still asked our students to protect their uniforms with care. Many students and parents showed sensitivity to this issue. With the opening of schools in the 2021-2022 academic year, our students who returned to their schools by growing and developing, exchanged the uniforms that they could not use during the pandemic period with their friends. This made us all very happy as an example of sustainability and savings. We know you owe some care.
A JOYFUL WALK IN NATURE - Mustafa Üstündağ Secondary School - JUNE 2021
We embraced nature in order to witness the reflections of the cycle of life in nature, to understand that sustainability in nature is the basic condition of life on earth, and to look at the existence of plants and animals from the perspective of the sustainability of our world.
Our students, who are training on their computers during the pandemic, are experiencing one of the most enjoyable states of learning in the catch-up lessons planned with the closure of schools. The joyful walk in nature is actually a good opportunity to experience the most important concept that we have and belong to. Education is actually beyond the school, the classroom, the blackboard.
RECYCLING BOOKS AND NOTEBOOKS - June 2021
Mustafa Üstündağ Secondary School called for recycling to its students this year, as it does every year. At the end of each academic year, our students aim to contribute to nature by bringing their books and notebooks that they will no longer use to the recycling area, and they are proud of being a part of sustainability.
