A SUNet ID is a unique Stanford University ID assigned to you. This ID is used for several processes within the University. Please note that the SUNet will not be fully active until a week prior to arrival on campus and will become inactive after the program ends in August. You will not receive an email account associated with your SUNet ID. In June, you will create a GSB Alumni email account. We will use your alumni email account for program communication.
In early May, you will receive an email from sep@gsb.stanford.edu or a SEP Team member. This email has a unique link you should click to create your SUNet ID by the designated date provided. Please complete the process following the instructions below.
Please take care setting up your SUNet ID as it cannot be changed once it is created and is a visible part of your Stanford profile. A common way to create your SUNet ID is a combination of your first and last name. For example, janesmith or janesmith18.
When creating your SUNet ID, please remember your password and security question and answer. Be mindful to take into account special characters and international keyboards which may reflect different characters.
If you have difficulty creating your SUNet ID, please contact sep@gsb.stanford.edu or the SUNet Help Number at (650) 725-4357. Consultants are available, Monday - Friday (7 am - 7 pm PT) and Saturday/Sunday (8 am - 5 pm PT).
Your Stanford sponsor begins the process by entering personally identifiable information such as your full name and date of birth into the Stanford system. When your sponsor's task is complete, you'll receive an email inviting you to choose a SUNet ID and password.
1. Open the invitation email from your sponsor. Click the link in the invitation and follow the directions.
2. On the Identify Yourself form, enter your last name and date of birth, then click continue.
3. On the Choose Your SUNet ID page, type your desired SUNet ID. After two failed attempts, the system will suggest available SUNet IDs. If you choose a SUNet ID that isn't available, the system will ask you to choose another. Remember to select a SUNet ID that you will be proud to say aloud to a professor, manager, or co-worker. Those who receive a Stanford email address will be assigned your-sunetid@stanford.edu. Click continue.
4. On the Verify Permanent SUNet ID page, click each gray box to acknowledge that you agree to the policies and terms. If you don't like your SUNet ID, click change SUNet ID; this is your last chance to change it. When you're satisfied with your SUNet ID, click continue.
5. On the Choose Your Password page, enter a password that complies with the requirements listed on the right side of the page. Click continue.
6. On the Enter Password Reset Question and Answer page, choose a question and an answer that you can easily remember. Click continue.
7.Your SUNet ID and password are now set.
Your SUNet ID will be registered after 24 hours. After 24 hours of creating your SUNet ID, ensure the following steps are completed:
Set-up Two-Step Authentication on your smartphone device. In order to access certain Stanford websites, you will need to have a smartphone device registered for Duo Mobile two-step authentication.
Follow the instructions here to download the app to the smartphone device you will bring to campus. Our team will help explain how to use this during the iPad set-up time of your onboarding appointment.
Update your StanfordYou profile. Add your personal email and emergency contact information for your time on campus. This will also help IT verify you if you need to reset your password and security question.
Follow the instructions here. You must set up your Two-Step Authentication before you are able to access StanfordYou.
ID Card: Upload your Headshot. Login with your SUNet ID and password here and upload a headshot for your identification card to be used on campus. This is separate from the headshot you uploaded in the pre-program questionnaire.
It is important to complete each of these steps to successfully set you up in the University system and to create your University ID card. Failure to execute these steps in a timely manner will result in delays during your onboarding process and key card access.
Please contact the SEP team at sep@gsb.stanford.edu if you have any questions.
