Smoking
Stanford University is a non-smoking campus. Smoking is not permitted inside any university building, including the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) Residences: Schwab Residential Center and Jack McDonald Hall. There are dedicated smoking areas around the Knight Management Center including one in front of GSB Residences.
Use this link to view a map of the designated smoking areas. These designated smoking areas will be pointed out to you on the Stanford GSB Residences tour upon check-in.
Noise
Quiet hours begin at 11:00 pm on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday) and at 1:00 am on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Please be considerate of residents. Noise that is disruptive to other members of the Schwab Community is a violation of the University Noise Policy. Please be considerate of other guests and students in the community. Those who do not abide by these policies will be reminded of the policy.
Drinking and Driving
Don’t do it. The State of California has very strict laws regarding driving under the influence that are rigorously enforced. These laws also extend to bicycle riders. The Stanford University campus police are extremely vigilant. Be prudent, call a taxi or contact a rideshare service instead.
Address for rideshare services:
680 Jane Stanford Way
Stanford, CA 94305
Stanford University strives to provide a place of work and study free of sexual harassment, intimidation or exploitation. It is expected that all members of the Stanford community will treat one another with respect. The Sexual Harassment Policy applies to all faculty, participants and staff at the University. Everyone who participates in the programs of the University and those who work on Stanford University projects are covered by and must comply with the provisions in this policy.
Stanford defines sexual harassment as: "Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other visual, verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when: (1) It is implicitly or explicitly suggested that submission to or rejection of the conduct will be a factor in academic or employment decisions or evaluations, or permission to participate in a University activity; or (2) The conduct has the purpose or effect of interfering with an individual's academic or work performance by creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive academic, work or student living environment."
If Stanford determines that any Stanford employee, participant, agent, representative or associate is the target of sufficiently inappropriate or sexually harassing behavior by a participant in a Stanford sponsored program or by a contract employee working on a Stanford sponsored contract, the participant may be removed from their current program or contract.

Sustainability must become a core value in everything we do. As a community we are committed to developing our core campus in a sustainable fashion that preserves what we cherish, that demonstrates leadership in the university’s commitment to be a good environmental steward and that safeguards the ability for future generations to thrive at Stanford.
—John L. Hennessy
Former President, Stanford University (2000 - 2016)
In pursuing its academic mission, Stanford University is committed to being a leader in research, teaching, and action of environmental sustainability.
Sustainable Stanford is a university-wide effort to reduce our environmental impact, preserve resources, and show sustainability in action. Please assist us in this effort by utilizing the clearly labeled paper and bottle/container recycling containers. Any paper plates or napkins, along with food waste, should be placed in the composting bins. We encourage you to refill your compostable cup or personal water bottle rather than opening plastic bottles. All water fountains on campus have filtered water. Tap water in Northern California is safe to drink.
