Key words: Mentoring, Panels, Volunteering
The Haas Center for Public Service inspires Stanford University to realize a just and sustainable world through service, scholarship, and community partnerships. It is the hub of Cardinal Service, a university-wide effort to make service an essential feature of a Stanford education.
We hope we can find opportunities for you, the DCI fellows, to engage with our students and staff. We have some ideas, but the connections will depend on matching your skills, experience, and interests with the needs of the students.
Example: Brandon Reyante worked with a former DCI, Katie Vogelheim, to support “Action Lab” courses offered by the Center for Human and Planetary Health. She put together the Action Lab framework guide. That is an example of how Haas staff and DCI fellows can collaborate.
I’d like to share some ideas we have. We are also open to your suggestions:
Panel discussions: the panel could be on specific areas of public service or functional areas such as marketing, fundraising, public relations
Sharing Fellows’ experience in smaller groups, such as over a meal: leadership, career choices, how to think about your next career step, what to include in an effective interview or resume
Mentoring students during the fellowships
Providing expertise and feedback for student groups. How to recruit and retain new members. Content.
Planning for next year’s Democracy Day and/or StanfordVotes
Input on cross campus collaborations and community partner relationships
Join us for Spring into Service (April. Date TBD)
Dinner at Otero, public service dorm
We will have a sign up sheet at the table, please stop by with questions or contact Peggy Propp (PPropp@stanford.edu) if you are interested in working with Haas and our students.
