Key words: Teaching, Mentor, Volunteering, Board members
Envisioneers is a Bay Area non-profit with a mission to combat systemic inequity in public education by fostering and cultivating the academic and social-emotional skills of our students while exposing them to engaging project-based learning and community mentors. Envisioneers’ research-based approach delivers after-school programs to underserved and underrepresented middle school students. These apprenticeships offer a unique blend of academic enrichment and hands-on experience, empowering students to explore potential professional paths and envision different futures for themselves.
The pandemic has been immensely damaging to America’s children, setting student progress in math and reading back by two decades. This setback is felt even more by low-income children, with the achievement gap between the poor and wealthy widening significantly. Envisioneers is devoted to delivering the highest quality programs in tough environments. Our staff show up every day committed to building community, academic success, and self-confidence. Most importantly, we are building belief in an opportunity-rich future — one child at a time.
DCI Fellows local to the area would be wonderful 21st century skill mentors to our students. Teaching in the classroom (at most once a week for 10 weeks) is a wonderfully rewarding and humbling experience. We also welcome interested board members and of course donors!
