Key words: Board Positions
What is Mid-Peninsula High School?
Mid-Peninsula is not just a school—it’s a community where every student belongs, a place
where students who don’t fit the traditional educational mold can thrive. We provide a
welcoming environment for those who may feel overlooked or out of place in other settings. Our
focus on individuality, creativity, and connection helps students build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in college and beyond. At Mid-Pen, we recognize that every student learns differently, and our approach is designed to meet those diverse needs with small class sizes, supportive accommodations, and a nurturing, close-knit community. And while we are a small school, we provide everything students can expect from a typical high school—sports, music, art, theater, clubs, dances, and more—ensuring a well-rounded experience.
Initiative Description:
The Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees of Mid-Peninsula High School is looking to recruit qualified prospective candidates to the Mid-Pen Board of Trustees, Board Committees and Task Force Initiatives.
The Mid-Pen Board of Trustees is entrusted with the stewardship of the institution so that it remains strong and vital for the next generation of students. All volunteers, Mid-Pen trustees are the custodians of the school. They hold "in trust" the school mission and work to ensure its long term success. Trustees, even those whose children did not attend the school, have a responsibility to create "their children's school." The Mid-Pen High School Board currently has 17 trustees. A trustee of Mid-Pen High School assumes the following major areas of responsibility when they agree to serve on the board:
Financial health: Trustees are legally responsible for the financial health and viability of the school, both for the present and into the future for the long term.
Support and evaluation of the Head of School: A primary responsibility of the Board of Trustees is to hire and evaluate the Head of School.
Development: Trustees are expected to be actively involved in helping the school to develop and steward relationships with individuals and organizations who can provide resources or other forms of support for the mission and activities of the school.
Ambassador: Trustees serve as representatives of Mid-Pen in all aspects of their personal, community, and professional lives. Being well informed about the mission, activities, and impact of a Mid-Pen education allows Trustees to represent the school effectively and accurately, thus building positive awareness in the community.
Estimated Time Commitment: 3-year term. Trustees participate in monthly Board meetings that are split between in-person and virtual formats, monthly committee meetings are held virtually, a small number of school events and a Board retreat at the beginning of the school year.
Committees & Task Force Initiatives
Another way to serve Mid-Pen in a leadership role is to be a part of a Committee or Task Force as a non-Board member. Committee and Task Force members bring specific knowledge and experience to their role supporting the charters of Committee and Task Force work.
Estimated Time Commitment - Flexible based on the needs of the Committee or Task Force. At least a year commitment to the activities of the team would be optimal.
Committee Service: Audit Committee, Executive Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, Finance Committee, Governance Committee
Task Forces: Capital Campaign, Strategic Planning, Grounds Usage Task Force
