Key words: Volunteer, Mentor, Board Service
Community Forestry - Canopy plants and cares for trees where they are needed most. Trees are an essential part of healthy urban communities, contributing to cleaner air, cooler temperatures, increased climate resilience, and enhanced physical and mental health of residents. Unfortunately, the converse is also true: a lack of trees has detrimental impacts, especially on youth and vulnerable populations.
Through education, workforce development and tree planting and care, Canopy harnesses the power of trees to foster equity and health, empower youth, build community and community knowledge and fortify our cities from climate change. (North Santa Clara County/ South San Mateo County)
Estimated Time Commitment – Volunteer with Canopy as a community volunteer joining together with community, staff and Teen Urban Foresters at a community tree planting (3 hours). Collaborate with Canopy's environmental educators to bring Next Generation Science Standards curriculum to K-8 classrooms (weekly 2 hours). Advisory Council - Regional or national knowledge of community engagement, partner agencies, and program (15 hours annually) Board Member (3-5 hours monthly) Organizational Mentorship - (flexible) provide counsel or mentorship to organization leadership and staff.
