Up & Up | Committing to Lifelong Learning
How might you intentionally commit to a cycle of continuous improvement to grow your resilience and capacity as an educator?
It can be so easy to compare oneself to a teacher across the hall or our mentor. Keep in mind these educators may have 5, 10, 15+ years of experience reflecting, growing and adding to their craft. It is completely normal and expected for you to not know everything there is to know about teaching. As you continue to get smarter about teaching and the students in front of you, you will grow as a teacher and begin to see challenges as opportunities for gaining new knowledge. As you transform challenges into opportunities, you'll begin to build resilience as an educator as new challenges are presented to you.
We encourage you to use the Conscious Competence Ladder as a way to frame the journey of learning as you work to get smarter about teaching and the students in front of you. You can apply this ladder to anything in life. Think about your journey in learning how to ride a bike, generate a report in Synergy or prepare for an upcoming Student Education Committee meeting. You'll find a detailed ladder with explanations and examples of each level here.
Explore the resources below to learn some strategies to assist in your commitment to lifelong learning. Remember, you'll continue to go "up and up" as you commit to this never-ending journey of learning.
