Math

7th grade math

Description:

Focuses on four critical areas: developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equation solving problems involving scale drawings, geometric constructions, surface area and volume; and drawing inferences about populations. This course covers all 7th grade content standards in preparation for 8th grade.

Block/intervention

Description:

In addition to either the 7th Grade or the 8th Grade Math courses, students who require additional opportunities for re-teaching or small group supports and who may lack a fundamental mastery of basic math skills, may also be enrolled in a math intervention course. This allows for repetition of math skills for students to build math confidence, demonstrate mastery of basic concepts and a provide additional instructional support. This will allow students to access grade level content, but also get the individualized supports they may need to make accelerated growth.

Accelerated Course (7th Grade)

Description:

Focuses on four critical areas: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational numbers; analyzing proportional relationships and using expressions and equations; using sampling to draw inferences about a population and solving problems involving angle measure, area, surface area and volume. This course covers all content standards for both the 7th and 8th grade school years in preparation for taking Algebra for high school credit as an 8th grader.

8th Grade Pre algebra

Description:

Focuses on three critical areas: applying equations in one and two variables; understanding the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; applying the Pythagorean Theorem and then concepts of similarity and congruence. This course covers all content standards for 8th grade in preparation for entering high school ready for Algebra.

algebra (7th and 8th grade)

Description:

Using the Indiana Process Standards as the framework for developing conceptual understanding of mathematical content and the synthesis and application of mathematical skills, this course focuses on the 6 essential strands for Algebra: real numbers and expressions; functions; linear equations, inequalities and functions; systems of equations and inequalities; quadratic and exponential equations and functions; and data analysis and statistics. *Students earn 2 high school credits (1 per semester) for this course.

Requirements:

Seventh grade students selected for this course must show mastery of concepts on placement tests/ILEARN, a letter grade of A in math, and have a teacher recommendation.

Eighth grade students selected for this course must have taken 7th grade Accelerated Math and earned a letter grade of B or higher.

honors geometry (8th grade)

Description:

Using the Indiana Process Standards as the framework for developing conceptual understanding of mathematical content and the synthesis and application of mathematical skills, this course focuses on the 7 essential strands for Geometry: logic and proofs; points, lines, angles and planes; triangles; quadrilaterals and other polygons; circles; transformations; and 3 dimensional solids. *Students earn 2 high school credits (1 per semester) for this course. Successful completion of Algebra is a prerequisite for this course.

Requirements:

Eighth graders must have completed Algebra I as a seventh grader and earned a letter grade of B or higher both semesters to move on to Geometry.
