This 220-hour introductory course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the horticulture, landscaping, and environmental design industries. This curriculum is designed to build entry-level skills across multiple disciplines.
Students gain hands-on and classroom experience in Plant and Soil Science, Landscape Management and Installation Practices, Landscape Design and Construction Practices, Plant Identification, Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Safe Equipment Operation. Throughout the course, and when warmer months arrive students develop practical competencies using power equipment, hand tools, and plant/hardscape materials relevant to both residential and commercial landscapes.
In addition to hands-on skill development, students may learn to read and interpret landscape plans, calculate and estimate landscape materials, review material lists, and understand key industry specifications. This integrated approach helps students develop a clear understanding of how professional landscape projects are designed, planned, and carried out in real-world settings.
Students also earn an OSHA 10 certification, demonstrating their competence in workplace safety and enhancing their employability.
By the end of this program, participants will be prepared to enter the workforce in entry-level horticulture and landscape positions. They will have a solid foundation in essential skills and concepts, enabling them to contribute confidently as they begin their careers. Although this course will not make students full professionals right away, it equips them with the foundational skills, practical experience, and industry understanding necessary to begin their careers with confidence and build toward long-term success.
