This 220-hour introductory course provides a solid foundation in the carpentry trade, covering various aspects such as residential, commercial, and specialized work. Participants will learn about essential materials, including different types of wood, fasteners, and adhesives, while emphasizing tool safety and maintenance. The curriculum includes hands-on practice with hand tools like hammers, chisels, and saws, focusing on proper usage and maintenance techniques. Students will engage in creating simple joints and connections, as well as exploring power tools, such as drills and nail guns, with an emphasis on safety and maintenance practices.
The course also delves into essential carpentry skills, including framing techniques and blueprint reading. Students will learn to interpret architectural drawings, measure and cut framing materials, and understand wall, floor, and roof framing. Safety is a top priority, with instruction on OSHA regulations, personal protective equipment, and safe practices while working with tools and scaffolding. Additional topics include hot work processes like welding and soldering, trim work installation techniques, and the proper methods for measuring, cutting, and installing doors and windows. Through hands-on projects, participants will develop practical skills needed for a successful career in carpentry.
