Sewing and fiber arts will provide students with fundamental sewing skills - both hand and machine sewing will be covered. Fiber arts will include skills such as embroidery, cross-stitch, crochet and weaving. First semester will build foundational skills and second semester will allow students to deepen their knowledge of these skills with individual pursuits. Focus will be on craftsmanship and fiber arts as both craft and art. (District course listing - clothing 1 and crafts)
The following is just a sample of the types of projects we will work on:
Tote bag - your first big machine sewing project will be a tote bag. Learn how to use a sewing machine properly to construct your own tote!
Sew a pair of lounge pants - Learn how to make your first wearable piece of clothing! Use a sewing maching and understand basic construction techniques.
Crochet - learn crochet basics and how to follow a pattern to make an item of your choice.
Needle work - learn basics of needle work starting with cross stitch. From there you can choose to explore or needle work projects such as embrodery or crewel work.
Many more projects will be based on your own interests and self directed.
