Painting and Drawing In this class students will explore drawing, painting and printmaking. They will have an opportunity to learn and improve drawing from observation as well as imaginative and design work. This class has something for everyone and is appropriate for all skill levels! Below are a few examples of the types of projects we do in 2-D art. We usually do 8-10 projects each semester as well as a few smaller works.
No prerequisite. Course may only be taken once.
After practicing our observational skills and hand eye coordination we put it to work on drawing from photos and life.
Using a variety of textures we create a print plate and use the printing press to apply extreme pressure to create some really amazing art.
It is important to understand the color wheel before painting. We learn lots of tricks for mixing color and then apply what we learned in drawing and color mixing to create a fantastic final painting on canvas board.
Working with quality pens we play around with overlapping drawings and then apply some fun patterns to make our work pop.
Texture plays a big role in our charcoal animal drawings. A reference photo provides the inspiration and you provide the mark making.
Bring out the carving tools! We carve our own print blocks and use them to create multiple prints in a variety of colors.
Portraits get a little more interesting using newspaper, tea, and charcoal. Or maybe we do a colorful watercolor crayon resist as the background. Either way adds some playfulness to our art.
Multiple watercolor techniques are used in this dramatic layered theater style book. Students get lots of opportunity to explore how watercolor works. Or perhaps an accordian style artwork or.....
Students will get the opportunity to pick a style, medium or subject they wish to explore with guidance and support in class.
