FiT Scheme Phase 2 started its operation on 16 Oct 2024. As it is a 20 kW generator of solar power, it has significantly increased our solar energy production and hence the reduction of GHG in the environment. The GHG emissions due to the Town Gas purchased and the water consumption are insignificant when compare with that of electricity consumption.
The carbon emissions factor for electricity consumption in 2025 is taken as 0.66 kgCO2-e.
The GHG emissions in 2022-23 was 396,252 kgCO2-e and in 2023-24 was 412,712 kgCO2-e. The total electricity consumption in 2022-23 and 2023-24 were 593,103 kWh and 613,431 kWh respectively.
The GHG emssions in 2023-24 was increased by 4.15% while the electricity consumption was increased by 3.43%. The difference was due to the increase in the carbon emissions factor from 0.66 kg CO2-e in 2023 to 0.68 kg CO2-e in 2024.
We were unable to meet our target of keeping the same amount of carbon emissions.
According to the electricity bills of some users, the carbon emissions factor in 2024 is taken as 0.68 kgCO2-e.
Scope 1: 0.14 tonnes CO2-e
Scope 2: 421.14 tonnes CO2-e
Scope 3: 38.29 tonnes CO2-e
Total: 459.57 tonnes CO2-e
GHG emission due to electricity consumption is 421.10 tonnes CO2-e which occupies 91.6% of the total emissions. It is the largest source of emissions.
GHG emission due to paper waste is 34.32 tonnes CO2-e which occupies 7.5% of the total emissions. It is the second largest source of emissions.
On the other hand, 715.68 kgCO2-e is reduced due to the solar panels installed in Aug 2023.
According to the website of Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd., their carbon emissions factors are 0.68 and 0.66 kg CO2-e respectively. We have updated our carbon emissions in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The updated GHG emissions in 2022 - 23 are as follows:
Scope 2: 403.34 tonnes CO2-e
Total: 441.77 tonnes CO2-e
GHG emission avoided by the solar panels: 665.28 kgCO2-e
This estimation makes use of the electrical energy consumed in each month (in kWh). The Emission Factor is 0.71 kgCO2-e/kWh according to The Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd. (Scope 2)
Due to COVID-19 in the last 3 years, the estimated GHG emission was severely affected due to class suspension. Thus, the estimated GHG emission from Sep-22 to Aug-23 will be used as the baseline year. A target for the reduction in the emission will then be set in order to achieve carbon neutrality eventually.
According to the website of Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd., their carbon emissions factors are 0.68 and 0.66 kg CO2-e respectively. We have updated our carbon emissions in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
The GHG emssion in 2022-23 had increased by 14%. It was mainly due to our resumption of the Whole-Day School Timetable in late Sep 22. Furthermore, the restrictions due to COVID-19 were all removed in Mar 23. Normal operation of the school was then resumed.
According to the website of Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd., their carbon emissions factors are 0.68 and 0.66 kg CO2-e respectively. The updated increase in GHG emission is 9.90%.
This estimation makes use of the unit of Towngas consumed in each month and the Emission Factors obtained from the Environmental Protection Department in 2010. GHG emission due to Towngas consumed in 2022-23 (Scope 1) in our school is shown.
GHG emissions due to Towngas purchased in 2022-23 (Scope 2) shows the GHG emission in the production of the Towngas within the Towngas Company. The emissions are calculated using the emission factor from the excel file (Carbon_Audit_Template.xlsx) provided by the Environmental Protection Department which is 0.592 kgCO2-e per unit. (Note: the carbon emission factor printed on the Towngas bills is 0.065 kgCO2-e per MJ which is the sum of the carbon emission factors from both scopes).
This estimation makes use of the volume of water consumption from the water charges in every 4 months. The Emission Factor is obtained from the Carbon Net Zero template of UNESCO (Scope 3). The emission factors for water consumption and sewage water are 0.428 kg/m3 and 0.200 kg/m3 respectively.
The carbon emissions in 22-23 and 21-22 are 4470.7 kgCO2-e and 2556.2 kg CO2-e respectively. An increase of 75% is mainly due to class suspension as mentioned above.
The disclosure of our water and energy consumptions are suspended due to the pandemic.
