At the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence 2023, organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee, our school has achieved the Gold Award in the Schools Sector (Secondary) and the Certificate of Merit for the Best Green Education Initiative Award (Secondary). Additionally, our teacher, Mr. C. Szeto, was honoured as a ‘Green Achiever’ for his outstanding contributions to our school’s green education efforts.
The awards ceremony took place on 2 December 2024. During the event, Mr. Szeto, along with two of our Green Teens, led a sharing session under the Environmental Protection Department. They highlighted our school’s innovative green initiatives, including the upcycling of unclaimed school sweaters and the creation of eco-enzymes from orange peels collected during Joyful Fruit Day.
Our school also hosted a booth where the Green Teens showcased our green education programmes, explained the seven types of plastics, and displayed upcycled sandbags crafted by our students. To enhance the experience, the Green Teens organized interactive games for guests, including a challenge to identify the types of plastics from various items and a mini-game featuring an image of the food chain to explore ecological connections.
Congratulations to Mr. Szeto, our students, and the entire school community for their unwavering commitment to sustainability. We will continue with our excellent work in environmental conservation and sustainable development
The Booth at the Prize Presentation Ceremony
As proud Gold Awardees, we were honored to have the opportunity to showcase our green initiatives at the Prize Presentation Ceremony. Our backdrop highlighted our leadership in sustainability, our diverse green activities, our impressive performance, and the valuable contributions of our partners.
To engage our visitors, we prepared two interactive games:
Plastic Puzzle: Participants identified the type of plastic (1-7) for various items.
Food Web Challenge: Visitors were tasked with identifying the role of a given species within a food web.
Correct answers were rewarded with a souvenir.
We also displayed a scarf, creatively downcycled from unclaimed school sweaters, and an rPET trophy honoring students' exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability. Additionally, our green sandbags, crafted from recycled PET plastics and glass, served as a canvas for students' inspiring environmental messages before being filled by sheltered workshops.
Our dedicated students, Isabelle Li and Zoe Chan, expertly introduced our work and exhibits to the Deputy Director of Education Bureau Mr. Shi Junhui, the Chairman of the Environment and Conservation Fund Committee Dr. Cheng Kam-chung, the Chairman of the Environmental Campaign Committee Professor Huang Jielong and other VIPs who visited our booth. Please click here for the video of their presentation. We extend our sincere gratitude to all our green teens for their tireless efforts in making this event a success.
The sharing session of the Environmental Protection Department
To echo with the “We-recycle@School” Activity organized by the Environmental Protection Department, our Mr Szeto (Head of Green School Working Team), Sonia Ng (Green Teen and the President of Sustainability Club), and Angel Si (Green Teen) shared our experience and excellent work on recycling.
Based on our low carbon value chain, we have organized 5 recycling programmes and our 3 Circular Economy activities. We also incorporated our "Reduce Waste at Source" and Green Procurement at the upstream of our recycling work.
The Workshop for the HKAEE 2024
