PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students take Wellness 10 to meet  graduation requirements for Physical Education.

Wellness 10 (WLM10, WLF10, WLL10, WLL10-N )

The purpose of Wellness 10 is to develop confident and competent students who understand, appreciate, and engage in a balanced, healthy, and active lifestyle. Throughout Wellness 10, opportunities are provided for students to attain and maintain a healthy “mind, body, and spirit”. Young people can acquire the understandings, skills, and confidences needed, for example, to create a personal plan for wellness, engage in service learning, balance the dimensions of wellness, establish a norm of safety, experience improvement in physical fitness, and learn the skills, tactics, and strategies needed for a variety of sports and physical activities. Students will engage in 12 hours of service learning. 

Physical Education 20 (PED20) ($104.75)

In this course, students will continue to develop their understanding of physical literacy. Students will explore health- and skill-related fitness through a variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities including badminton, weightlifting, table tennis, baseball, lawn bowling, fitness classes, yoga, and winter activities. Students will investigate how nutrition, mental health and a physically active lifestyle support personal well-being, will engage in 10 hours of service learning, and explore topics of personal interest relevant to Physical Education 20. This course makes extensive use of community and city facilities. 

Physical Education 20 Girls Only (PED20-F) ($104.75)

In this course, students will continue to develop their understanding of physical literacy. Students will explore health- and skill-related fitness through a variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities including badminton, weightlifting, table tennis, baseball, lawn bowling, fitness classes, yoga, and winter activities. Students will investigate how nutrition, mental health and a physically active lifestyle support personal well-being, will engage in 10 hours of service learning, and explore topics of personal interest relevant to Physical Education 20. This course makes extensive use of community and city facilities.

Physical Education 30 (PED30) ($104.75)

This course is designed to promote interest and involvement in a variety of lifelong physical activities including strength training, pickleball, lawn bowling, broomball, cross-country skiing, curling, golf, fitness classes, and swimming. Through a leadership role, students will investigate the effects of body management activities on the well-being of self and community, examine how nutritional choices and psychological factors can impact participation in physical activities, and will engage in service learning and explore topics of personal interest relevant to Physical Education 30. This course makes extensive use of community and city facilities.
