This course is an extension of skills learned in Band 9.
Students are expected to perform scales, studies, solo, band repertoire, and to complete written theory and reflection work.
Home practice is required.
Students in this class will participate in all rehearsals, performances and special projects of the band.
Students are required to obtain a music uniform, which is typically purchased in their first year of Band at Bowman.

Choral 9 Students registered in choral class should have a keen interest in singing.
Group instruction is given in vocal technique, listening, music theory, solfege, diction, ear training and part singing.
A broad range of popular, folk, and traditional music will be studied along with various languages.
Students in this class are members of the Aden Bowman Choir and participate in all rehearsals, sectionals, performances, and special projects of the choir.
Students are required to obtain an Aden Bowman music shirt as part of the uniform.
The choir class operates outside of the regular timetable.
Students will be required to attend class before school starts from 7:50 - 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, and Friday.
Students may take choir as an eleventh class.
What you need to know:
Students will be introduced to a variety of dance forms from various peoples and time periods. This appreciation for diversity permeates all levels of Dance at Aden Bowman.
Dance 10 involves further study of a variety of dance forms, with a greater focus on technique, choreography, and performance.
Through practical, visual, and written study, the students will also examine the historical, cultural, and social aspects of dance.
The students will perform their work at the end of the semester in our Aden Bowman Dance Showcase.
The modes covered in Dance 10 include: Introduction to Dance, Techniques and Dance Expressions - Cultural Stories.
What you need to know:
Drama 10 continues the students ‘development of movement, speech, and other acting skills.
Assignments include performance of a monologue and stage combat. Drama 10 places greater emphasis on physical movement, interpretation, characterization, and scene work.
The expectation is that drama students are committed to enthusiasm in participation and excellence in performance.
Activities and performances are not optional.
Students are also expected to always display courtesy to others.
Due to the collaborative nature of Drama, regular attendance is an expectation in this class.
All students who enroll in these courses must attend at least one live play performance during the semester and must write a critique of one of those productions.
Transportation and tickets are the responsibility of the student.

The Jazz Studies curriculum is set up to promote and to understand the elements of music and to develop the concepts that will lead to the understanding of organization, structure, and expression in jazz music.
Students will have the opportunity to form small jazz ensembles and learn the beginning elements of improvisation and composition.
Students are required to participate in all performances, class activities, and special projects.
Open to Grade 10, 11 and 12 students - no music background necessary
What you need to know:
This course is open to students in grade10, 11, or 12 who have little or no musical background; all skill levels are welcome!
The primary focus is using the guitar to learn to read traditional notation and tablature, strum chords, and finger-pick patterns.
There is an emphasis on pop, rock, blues, country, and classical music styles.
In addition, this course studies music history, theory, and composition. Guitars and materials are provided in class.
What you need to know:
Visual Art 10 (VAR10) This course will continue to build on the skills, media, and theory explored in Arts Ed 9.
In Visual Art 10 there is an emphasis on learning and building your drawing skills in a variety of media including pencil, conte, charcoal, colour pencil, and paint.
Along with technical skills students will also continue to develop self-expression and creative exploration through different 2-D and 3-D mediums.
Throughout this course you will learn about various Saskatchewan, Canadian, and international artists.
What you need to know:
In this course, you will work with a variety of materials that will lead to the development of your art-making abilities and begin to practice analysis.
You will investigate expressive and technical skills through drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture projects. Media explored may include graphite, charcoal, ink, acrylic, collage, pencil crayon, clay, and printmaking techniques.
You will learn how to understand, analyze, and interpret artworks by investigating Saskatchewan artists.
Aden Bowman’s Pré-IB Art 10 classes cover the same content, but students will have the opportunity to go more in-depth with techniques, research, and reflections for certain projects.
What you need to know:
Students in this class are members of the Senior Band and study abroad repertoire of quality music.
Evaluation is based upon the performance of solos, studies, scales, and band repertoire, as well as assignments and tests in listening, music theory, and ear training.
Students should have a keen interest in playing well and be prepared to practice regularly.
Students in this class participate in all rehearsals, performances, and special projects of the band.
What you need to know:
Group instruction is given in vocal technique, listening, music theory, solfege, diction, ear training and part singing.

Highly Recommended: Drama 10.
Drama 20 and 30 have been combined to allow greater flexibility of scheduling, thus allowing more students to enroll in these courses.
Students will build upon processes and techniques introduced in Drama 10 and will add to their repertoire of theatre skills and knowledge.
The course allows the potential for exploring various theatre genres, acting styles, philosophical views, and technical aspects of production.
Students are encouraged to challenge themselves with difficult material.
The expectations of Drama 20/30, regarding commitment, attendance, participation, courtesy, and live performance attendance, are the same as in Drama 10.

This course will continue to develop skills and concepts from Guitar 10 with a greater focus on individual performance and intermediate‐advanced playing techniques.
The primary focus is performance on the guitar with an emphasis on classical style note reading, tablature, bar chords, use of a pick, blues improvisation, strumming, and fingerpicking through a variety of styles (pop, rock, blues, classical, and folk).
This course studies music history, theory, and composition.
Guitars and materials are provided in class.
What you need to know:

In Studio Art 20, you will use an inquiry-based approach to explore art making as a means of expression. In this advanced art class, you will investigate several mediums (including drawing, mixed media, 3D forms, painting, and printmaking).
You will learn about yourself as an artist as you are challenged to create work that is thoughtful and nonderivative with the goal of developing your own personal style and voice.
Studio Art 20 is designed to give students the tools to understand art from the experience of making it.
There will be opportunities for practice, experimentation, and refinement.

The modules covered in Dance 30 include: Dance as a Part of Life and Messengers and Commentators.
Students may also have the opportunity to work on an Independent Study module at this level.

This course studies music history, theory, and composition.

What you need to know:
This course is designed for the dedicated art student who wishes to continue develop their skills, processes and techniques through projects that are more self-directed than in Art 10 and Art 20.
This course is for highly engaged art students who can work independently.
In Studio Art 30, you will learn how to de-sign, compose, problem solve, and con-tribute innovative ideas.
The inquiry-based approach invites you to take ownership of your own learning.
You’ll be encouraged to develop the confidence to push experimental works as well as strive for mastery in technical approaches.
Studio Art 30 will provide opportunities for students to create, interpret, and appreciate art, as well as develop their aesthetic perception, techniques, problem-solving skills, and personal artistic voice.
Working beyond scheduled class time to complete art-related research, gallery visits, sketchbook work and independent projects is encouraged at this level. You will also exhibit your work for public view.

This course is designed for the dedicated art student who wishes to continue develop their skills, processes and techniques through projects that are more self-directed than in Art 10 and Art 20.
If you select this course, you are interested in working independently, generating original ideas and producing quality work.
Students will be taught new skills, but they will also be encouraged to explore a wide range of media on their own.
As part of their creative process, students will investigate and draw inspiration from Canadian and International artworks and artists both historical and contemporary.
Students will also engage in regular self-reflection, evaluation and class critiques.
Students will have much more freedom and independence to explore their own and ideas and themes and continue to build their strengths as an artist.
Throughout the semester you will be creating, expanding and refining your visual portfolio and you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your progress and art-making processes.
