Extra Practice

This week you can:
Go on EPIC and read Jill and the Beanstalk . This book also has a Read to Me capability. To have the book read to your child push the play button, to allow your child to read on his/her own pause the book and just hit the arrows to flip through the pages.
Review the vocabulary words in the beginning of the story.
Answer the comprehension questions at the end of the story.
Watch the Jack and the Beanstalk video. Compare how Jack and the Beanstalk and Jill and the Beanstalk are he same and different.
STEAM Activity (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math): If you have time try to create a parachute for Jack using materials you have around the house. See the picture below for ideas.
This week you can:
Go on EPIC and read Pete Likes Bunny
Use the chart below to look for vowels working together to make a long vowel sound.
I have also included some other Easter books on your child's EPIC library that they can listen to, and 2 Easter craft books you can try with materials you have at home (Check out the Easter chick I made with my daughter Aurora at home). I would love to see pictures of anything you create!
If the weather cooperates I have included a fun back yard scavenger hunt you can do at home.

Watch the oo Digraph video below. Then go on a word hunt while reading Pizza for Sam looking for oo words in the story. Sort the words based on the sound of oo. Do the words say oo like in "cook" or oo like in "spoon"? You can use the sorting mat below to write the words from the book and video.

It has tons of fun recipes, food related science experiments, and activities. Send me photos of all the delicious things you make this week! I can smell them cooking already!

Watch the ou vs. ow video below. Then go on a word hunt while reading Ponies (pages 22-23) looking for ou and ow words in the story. Sort the words based on the spelling.
Try an activity from the ow ou sorting set.
If you have the materials at home make an ow cow and ou house. On the ow cow write ow words on each of the cow's spots. Write ou words in the windows and doors of your ou house.

Watch the sounds of y video. Then go on a word hunt while reading Pete the Cat looking for y saying e in the story.

While reading have your child look for long vowel team words words that make the long e sound using ee or ea within the book. Have your child tell you the letters or "chunks" working together to make that long vowel sound.
While reading you can pick words and sort them based on whether they make the long or short vowel sound.
After reading write and illustrate the sentence Penguins can _____________.

I hope you enjoy the nice weather and have lots of fun, but don't forget to read, read, read. Below I have linked some great book lists to look at over the summer.
