Now that you’ve explored propaganda, slogans, advertising and discounts, it’s time to switch roles and become the person creating the creative advertising intended to draw in consumers.
You’ve probably realized by now that art and advertising go hand in hand. Colors, fonts, graphics, photos and other general design features play a huge role in whether or not a sales campaign is successful. For this art project, you will choose a product, then create a flyer intended to promote your product. As you create the flyer, you will need to pay particular attention to the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design.
Steps:
Watch the Video Lesson
Choose a product that you would like to create an advertisement for. You can choose anything from a car to a sandwich or a video game.
Make a list of all of the important information that you need to have in the advertisement. Be sure to include the product name, a slogan, and a discount. Decide on what images you want to use, where you will place them and how you will include the Elements and Principles.
Gather up your supplies and begin your flyer. You can create a paper and pencil drawing, you can use paint, colored pencils, crayons or even create a digital flyer.
When you are finished, show your completed advertisement to a friend or a family member. Point out the important design elements you used and the rationale behind your choices. Seek input from your audience, ask them whether or not they would buy your product based on your flyer, and ask for detailed feedback.
Last, complete your Artist’s Statement. You can use this form, you can write about your work on your own or you can just tell someone. Be sure to discuss the process of your artwork, how you created it, explain the artistic choices you made, share one thing you love about your piece and one thing you would change if you could.
