Registration for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is now open to 7th-12th grade students! The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and, for more than a century, have inspired bold ideas in creative teens throughout the country. All entries are first considered regionally for Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention, American Voices Nominee, and American Visions Nominee awards. These are presented to students along with celebration ceremonies and exhibitions in each region. More information about this contest will be shared at our Sharing Sessions.
There are lots of ways to get involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program:
Art Competition
Quick Draw
Graphic Design Contest
and more!
We will discuss the procedures for this contest and share district specific information on 10/6
The Fish Art Contest sparks the imaginations of students and provides valuable lessons about fish and the importance of conserving Texas' aquatic resources. Art, science, and creative writing foster a connection to the outdoors and inspire the next generation of stewards.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
How will your campus celebrate the 20th Anniversary of The Dot?
Imagine… millions of pinwheels spinning in the wind – pinwheels in the United States, Great Britain, South America, Australia, the Middle East, Canada, Africa, Europe and Asia; pinwheels all over the world! – big pinwheels, small pinwheels; pinwheels of all shapes and sizes – colorful pinwheels, decorated with drawings, paintings, collages, photographs – pinwheels with words of peace and harmony written on them – fields of pinwheels, pinwheels along roadsides, in schoolyards, in parks, pinwheels EVERYWHERE!
This is the Pinwheels for Peace project!
Please join us EVERY year on International Day of Peace, September 21st, as we create a visual public statement about peace!
This optional project would be a great collaboration opportunity with another department.

UPDATE: Lindsay has reached out to each campus individually to verify the receipt of tech. Let her know if you have questions
Sally left us with some pretty NICE parting gifts before she retired: iPads (and more)!
Your tech person on campus should have them ready for you. If you need to change the room number these items will be house in, please update that information with your tech person on campus. They will need to do a transfer.
High School: DSLR Cameras are in process and will be delivered with cards and card readers
The district has a vast number of plexiglass dividers available for your use. The most convenient thing is that they are already located on your campus. You will need to connect with your principal or safety officer to acquire them.
Why would an art teacher need such an item?
printmaking
drawing boards
monotype
any use you can imagine
After the district arranges disposal of this plexiglass it will no longer be available.
