Welcome Back, Art Teachers!
The cherry on top of summer: Studio Retreat! Teachers came together for four days of studio-based professional development.
Several days of Studio Retreat were devoted to ceramics. Becky Mustachio led a workshop on creating a ceramic watercolor palette.
Printmaking Palooza wouldn't be complete without some gelli printing.
On the last day of Studio retreat, Shelley Smolen let the group in a collage workshop.
Fill out the Art Teacher Survey! This will help us create an art teacher directory and plan for the school year!

Bring one of your favorite things to order with your district budget! (example: favorite oil pastels, watercolor paper, glaze, etc.)
Sally left us with some pretty NICE parting gifts before she retired: iPads (and more)!
Your tech person on campus should have them ready for you, but if you are missing anything, feel free to reach out to lindsay.ripley@springbranchisd and she can check the spreadsheet from Sally's order for you.
We will be sharing new information about these purchases and how to use them in the classroom at DSDD.
Bring an iPad with you if you want any support trouble shooting or want to share!
J. Landon Short Mini Grant Deadline 8/27!
One artwork per teacher may be submitted to AYAM for the TASB/TSSA Show. There will be a blind selection of 8 artworks to be sent to TAEA for the conference display. Include image of your submition in your Outstanding Art Teacher slideshow.
All artwork must be submitted by 5pm on Thursday, August 31st to be considered.
Selections will be on display on September 29 - October 1, 2023 for the TASA / TASB Conference at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas!
*District of Distinction requirement
District of Distinction has already been submitted to TAEA, but we still want to celebrate you! If you submitted your slideshow to Sally, but not to Lindsay, please do so ASAP! If you have already shared your slideshow with Lindsay, please disregard! Awards will be hand-delivered to your campus at a later date.
Click HERE for criteria. This is how SBISD achieves the District of Distinction (DoD) award from TAEA.
Create a slideshow with evidence demonstrating the criteria linked above and email to lindsay.ripley@springbranchisd.com
Thank you to all who presented and shared ideas at Studio Retreat! As promised, HERE is the link to the slideshow with lots of resources inside. Free for the copying!
The district has a vast number of plexiglass dividers available for your use. The most convenient thing is that they are already located on your campus. You will need to connect with your principal or safety officer to acquire them.
Why would an art teacher need such an item?
printmaking
drawing boards
monotype
any use you can imagine
After the district arranges disposal of this plexiglass it will no longer be available.
