Thank you to all the teachers that promoted the AYAM Fall Festival! It was a major success! Special shout out to the art students at WAIS (and the teachers who organized!) for volunteering to make the Fall Festival amazing! These volunteer opportunities help to grow the Moral Compass of our students.
Fourth grade students at Woodview Elementary School learned about Environmental Art and how artists can use materials found in nature to promote their Limitless Curiosity. Props to art teacher Stephanie Black for thinking outside the box on this exciting activity!
Our fall professional development day made for ample opportunity to exercise the departments Collaborative Spirit. Not only did art teachers work together to address curricular needs, but they also spent time planning our big department event in the Spring, Create Fest!
SBISD has OUTSTANDING Art Teachers! It was a blast celebrating the teachers who earned this remarkable distinction last school year. We cannot wait to see the outstanding things the Art Dept does to promote the artistic development of Every Child in SBISD!
Congratulations to Stratford student, Yeo Jin Lee, who won FIRST PLACE in the Houston Mayor's Art Scholarship Contest. Competition for this one was fierce and there were many distinguished works submitted by SBISD students. We are so proud of all the students who submitted work and thankful for the art teachers who promote the Collective Greatness of our artists by opening doors to opportunities like this one.

The Visual Arts Department has been tasked with creating an original gift for members of The SBISD Board of Trustees during National Board Appreciation Month (January). Each High School will lead students to create two original mugs to donate to this initiative. Supplies were provided at the Sharing Session on October 6th.
All mugs are due to Lindsay in December before you leave for Winter Break.
CREATIVE and BIG (and functional) is the idea for this project. (no tiny mugs!)
Registration for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is now open to 7th-12th grade students! All winning entrants will receive awards appropriate to their grade level. Winning art may be used in print materials and displayed at the discretion of the museum. However, winning art will be returned to the student following the culmination of contest events.
The Middle School Art Competition (MSAC) at The Bayou City Art Festival is an education initiative presented by Art Colony Association for students in grades 5 -8 from Houston area private schools, charter schools, and public independent school districts.
