The TAEA Conference was a hit this year in Allen, Texas. We had eight SBISD Art Teachers in attendance. There were a variety of hands-on workshops and a celebration where SBISD recieved the 2023 District of Distinction trophy. You can see our award on display at the Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum lobby. The award is a physical representation of the Collective Greatness of the Visual Arts Department.
Art students in Becky Mustachio's class created letter sculptures representative of their own name and will paint them to reflect their interests. These sculpture projects push the Limitless Curiosity of student artists in SBISD. Props to the SFMS art department for pushing students' creativity!
Student artists as Housman Elementary got to experiment with a new artistic process recently, metal tooling. Trying new things and exploring new media through experimentation is a push in the development of students' Moral Compass. SBISD students bravely create art with new and exciting materials every day!
Many schools in SBISD honor our veterans through parades, performances, and through the creation of patriotic art. Students at Pine Shadows Elementary School created these Peter Max inspired flags using paint sticks. The flags will go on display demonstrating the Collaborative Spirit of our student artists.
They say "don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes," but how about judging this spectacular work of art found on display at Spring Woods High School? And of course, the judgement is a positive one! This remarkable example of drawing skill is a demonstration of the SWHS Art Dept.'s devotion to building the skills of Every Child in their program. Bravo Artists!

The Visual Arts Department has been tasked with creating an original gift for members of The SBISD Board of Trustees during National Board Appreciation Month (January). Each High School will lead students to create two original mugs to donate to this initiative. Supplies were provided at the Sharing Session on October 6th.
All mugs are due to Lindsay in December before you leave for Winter Break.
CREATIVE and BIG (and functional) is the idea for this project. (no tiny mugs!)
Registration for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is now open to 7th-12th grade students!
