From the earliest days of the Church, the offertory was taken for the upkeep of the parish but also to provide for those in need.
At St. Paul’s we keep that tradition going. Releasing a statement on the cost-of-living crisis recently, our Bishops asked parishes to:
“do everything possible at this time and to consider innovative ways of providing further material help and pastoral support. We also urge all Catholics to give whatever time and financial resources they can to charitable endeavours that support those who are affected by the current crisis.”
We have decided to respond within the parish by taking a collection for the local foodbank on the first Saturday/Sunday of each month. Crates are put in front of the sanctuary (it is a box at Staplefield) during the offertory collection.
Those who are able will be asked to bring up food to put in the crates. The food will then be collected by Haywards Heath Foodbank
It is important that the items are:
non-perishable (for example, tins)
in date
unopened
and specifically exclude the following:
alcohol (including zero alcohol drinks),
nuts,
infant formula,
bleach
and food that is about to go out of date.

Please empty any carrier bags into the crates and take them with you, as we don't need all the plastic bags. Thank you so much for your ongoing generosity.
A box will remain at the back of the church for anybody who would like to drop food in at any point during the month.
