The word "zany" comes from Commedia Dell'arte street theatre and it perfectly sums up this project. Through slap-stick, cartoon stock-characters, unbelievable love-plots, and breaking the fourth wall, this cheeky style of theatre allows performers to go beyond ridiculous and embody emotions that are larger than life. Since its beginnings, Commedia aimed to reveal the dysfunctions of everyday life by satirizing the powerful upper class and turning the common idiot into an epic hero. Zaniness is only the beginning of this fast-paced, over-the-top genre.
Note that the project requires a willingness to take huge risks, embrace personal stupidity, improvise with an audience, and precisely rehearse comedic gags in order to become real-life cartoon characters. While an interest in comedy is important, dedicated artists hungry for rigor is the top priority. After all, Commedia Dell'arte literally means "Comedy of Professional Artists". Join us to work hard and play even harder.
Calling Musicians! A small 3-5 piece Jazz combo or pop / rock band is needed to score this cartoon. Musicians should be comfortable with a variety of styles, inventing foley sounds (sound effects), and some light character-acting.
