A Day in the City, inspired by our journey as kids downtown, is a coming-of-age story. Pulling from Hip Hop foundation and musical background, we’ll create a dance production centering on the ups and downs of inner-city adolescence. Rhythm, groove, and percussion are the basis of our movement and creative process. Get ready to dip, whip, drop, milly, and not get caught!

Founded in 2016, New Black City is an all black and femme dance collective with a mission: to advocate for and uplift the voices who have been silenced—“changing the world one booty cheek at a time!”. With their explosive choreographed dance sets, they’ve managed to make a mark in the Twin Cities, allowing them the platform to explore how to create a more accepting and inclusive Hip Hop community, where individuals are safe to express themselves. Their credentials include opening up for artists such as Rico Nasty, Ashanti, Leikeli47, Kehlani, and more! They’ve graced the stages of renowned venues and events like First Avenue Mainroom, The Odway, The Armory, Fine Line, The Varsity Theatre, and Soundset just to name a few. Throughout their time building their platform, NBC has had the pleasure of traveling to learn, network and perform in places like New York, Atlanta, Texas, Chicago, and California! Currently, New Black City is focused on building wealth, continuing to develop their skills as artists, traveling, creating safe spaces and sharing their knowledge and stories with the world!
