Grades 1-3
Students who ride the bus will arrive in time to eat breakfast before beginning the day. Parents dropping off students should bring them to the back of their school.
Students will collaborate to solve an engineering design and construction problem using their critical thinking skills, teamwork, and creativity. These short challenges will start the day to help students get in an engineering frame of mind.
Students will be presented with a real world challenge that will need to be solved by designing and constructing an underwater exploration vehicle. Students will learn about the engineering design process. Operating under constraints, students will implement the design of their model underwater exploration vehicle.
Students will face the challenge of navigating a path for their underwater exploration vehicle (UEV) to take using coding basics and Sphero robots.
Students will be instructed on the coding basics of block coding to set a path that will allow their UEV to maneuver across the bottom of the perilous ocean floor.
Lunch will be provided in the cafeteria.
Students will learn about how animals can survive in the ocean. Students will help to dissect a shark to learn more about the anatomy of creatures that live in the ocean and the unique structures that make living under water possible.
