L.G Training

The Lifeguard Training class is a blended learning independent study with on-line and in-class work for advanced swimmers. This is an American Red Cross course with a fee of $57.00 which includes on-line access, a pocket breathing mask and gloves as well as downloadable lifeguarding manuals. Skills learned include first aid, CPR, spinal management, water rescues, in-water and on-land scenarios as well as written tests. Upon successful completion of all elements, students may receive certification for and will be able to work as a lifeguard with certification valid for two years.

The extended blended format requires, before each in-person session, chapter reading in the Lifeguarding Manual, the Blended e-Learning component, and homework assignments on Google Classroom which must be completed with printed copy of e-Learning module completion record provided to instructor (see Letter to Blended Learning Lifeguarding Participants). In-person sessions include on-land and in-water skills practice along with video review. The CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid final written exam is taken online and must be successfully passed before final in-person session (shown by completion record). Upon successful completion of written and water skills along with scenarios, students will receive a 2-year certification allowing them to work as a lifeguard.

This is a student-driven, student-paced class which requires self-motivation, proven discipline and integrity as it takes place at the same time as the aquatics class. Students will need to problem solve and practice on their own with the skills sheets and video instruction PRIOR to teacher interaction. Students success depends upon YOU!!
