Reducing the Risk (RTR) is a South Redford Board Approved 16-session curriculum designed to help high school students delay the initiation of sex or increase the use of protection against pregnancy and STD/HIV if they choose to have sex. This research-proven approach addresses skills such as risk assessment, communication, decision making, planning, refusal strategies and delay tactics. (Copies of the curriculum are available in the front office for parental review).
"I thought I knew way more than I did." "I'm deciding to be abstinent now." "This was very helpful."
"This curriculum really makes students think about where they currently are in regard to being lead to do things they don't want to do. They have to reflect, plan out what they will actually say to refuse or delay, and practice it in a non-threatening setting. The kids love it and the skills are transferable to everyday life situations! This is the ONLY time many students actually think these things through so as to not be caught off-guard and give in at a critical time when emotions are high. It's very effective and fun for me and the students."
