The Meaning Behind Red Ribbon Week

The Meaning Behind Red Ribbon Week

by Joshua Lundstedt

Monday, October 30th - Friday, November 3rd was Red Ribbon Week. Every year at about the same time, students around the nation celebrate this drug free week to both support being drug free, but also remember DEA agent Kiki Camerena, who was kidnapped and killed while undercover in Mexico studying drug cartels and other drug dealers. People in his hometown used red ribbons a sign of his death, and being drug free, as without illegal drugs his death would not have happened so soon.

During this week our school has dress-up days and has many fun prizes to remind us that we can have fun without drugs. Many students enjoyed this year’s dress-up days, like pajama day, sock day, mustache day, and red day. Every year it is an awesome week for having fun, being drug free, and remembering why illegal drugs are illegal.
