Girls MUDECAS Tournament

Girls MUDECAS: Jan 8th- 12th

by Madison Zvolanek

On January 8th, the varsity girls played Palmyra, who they have played before and beat, but they still knew it was going to be a game they had to fight for. In the end, the score was 60-35, Southern. Mariah Murphy scored her personal best of 29. She beat the schools record of 5 3’s in a game to just one more with 6. Mariah was on fire that night against Palmyra, along with everyone who played and scored a lot. The girls continued to the next day.

Since we had a snow day and didn’t have a game Thursday, the girls played Friday against HTRS at the scc gym, and they played a hard game and went into overtime and ended up winning that game. They moved on to the championship and played Saturday against Sterling. Throughout the game, they had good plays and great defense, but at times, when it was needed the most, they couldn’t finish. The 4th quarter came around, and they were down by with a score of 21-25, and by the end of the 4th, they were tied up 35-35, and once again had to go into overtime. In overtime, they did a good job, but once again, couldn't finish, and the score ended up being 41-47. We got runner up, once again, in Mudecas, which isn’t a bad thing, but all of the girls really wanted the finishing prize.

I believe my team can beat any team we need if we just set our minds to it and give it our all. My team has a bond, because we have been playing together since we were little. Our communication skills on the court need to be worked on, but I think I have a pretty great team. We push all of each other to the max. Knowing this is my last year with this group of girls is heartbreaking. The bond we have is so funny and just makes the season so much better. I am very proud of my team, and I can’t wait to come back and watch them kick butt!!
