Mr. Tunink's Classes do Graphs

By Alyssa H.

Mr. Jeff Tunink, one of Southern High School’s science teachers, had his classes do an interesting project. The classes involved were both seventh grade, both tenth grade classes, and anatomy. Their assignment was to figure out how long a virus or disease would take to infest the world. Once they had this figured out, they graphed the information on a big poster. The classes worked on these posters for about a week, and they are currently hanging up around the school.

The assignment was based on a game Mr.Tunink had played called Plague Inc., which is all about how fast you can infect the world. Mr.Tunink chose to do this assignment because of a group he is involved in that is trying to bring math and science together. He was supposed to come with an assignment that directly linked math to science, and that’s exactly what he did. This project was a very insightful one for the students involved.
