Acton Headed to Districts

Being the only wrestler on the team hasn’t stopped Preston Acton from finding success on the mat. His practices often consist of practicing moves on his coach or a wrestling dummy, but he has proved that he can still compete. Preston goes into districts this weekend as the #3 seed with a 22-9 record. He and his coach Jason Allington will head to Columbus and hopefully come back with a state qualifying wrestler. I had the privilege to meet this young man and ask him about his thoughts on the season so far.

Q: Are you proud of what you accomplished this season or do you wish you did better?

Preston: “It’s been pretty good, but I’ve had some stupid losses.”

Q: Did you like or dislike being the only wrestler? Why?

Preston: “Dislike. It makes practicing to get better, harder. It is hard to go full speed with my coach.”

Q: What was your favorite memory this season?

Preston: “Probably upsetting the #3 wrestler in the state at the Osceola Meet.”

Q: What is the worst part of the season?

Preston: “Not being able to eat or drink some days ‘cause I have to cut weight.”

Q: What are your predictions for districts?

Preston: “I’m hoping to get into the district final, that way I’m seeded good for the state tournament.”
