Track and field can be traced back to the start of the Olympics in Ancient Greece in 776 B.C. Men from all over Greece would show off their athletic abilities. Eventually the Romans who continued the games until the they were banned in 394 A.D. because of their ties to pagan beliefs. The very first games included categories such as sprints, long jump, discus, shot put, and javelin. These events from ancient times still remain in today’s sport.
